Cribs • Cribs can be dangerous in many ways, but if used correctly they can be very safe. • Cribs made before 1986 are illegal to use because they are not meeting the standards of a normal cribs. • Do not use cribs older than 10 years or broken or modified • Make sure there are no gaps bigger than two fingers between the side of the crib and the mattress. • Make sure there is a flat mattress and no soft bedding. • There should be no cut-outs on the headboard or footboard so a baby's head can’t get stuck. • Never place pillows or blankets with a baby in the crib

  4. What to dress them in • Dress children in sleeping wear not actual clothing. • Remove any draw strings or cords from their sleep wear. • Check for loose buttons. • Anything small an become a chocking hazard. • Make sure the fabric is breathable. • You can swaddle your baby and keep their Arms and legs at their sides.

  5. Where to buy cribs, toddler beds & playpens • Walmart • Sears • EBay • Best Buy – online • Target • Etc.

  6. Toddler beds • Make sure it is a sturdy bed, and it is low to the ground. • Make sure you buy a bed that has rails already on it. • Has to be certified. • Put the bed in a corner, so that there are two sides of the bed where your child can’t roll out. • If the bed is wood, check the joints, or if it is not wood check the screws to make sure they aren’t loose. • Have the bed away from windows, blinds, and heating units. • Move furniture like bedside tables and lamps away from the bed.

  7. What to dress them in • If your child has long hair put it in a ponytail. • They can wear one piece footy pajamas in the winter And cold nights. • On hot summer nights they can wear shorts and a Tank top or nothing at all besides their diaper.

  8. Playpen • They are not meant to be slept in unsupervised. • While you are using it, make sure the sides are locked in place. • Don’t add blankets, pillows, or extra mattresses. • Make sure the mattress is fuuuuuurhm. • Watch the baby in the playpen at all times. • Do not add stuffed animals, your baby could use them to climb out. • Make sure the playpen is far from stairs, doors, furniture and appliances. • Never put a playpen near the window because they could grab the blinds and crack their necks.

  9. Tips for safe sleep • Safest spot for infant to sleep is alone in a crib. • Don’t put infants to sleep on; water/standard beds, air mattress, futons etc. • Always put baby on their back to help prevent SIDS. • A smoke free environment is always helpful. • For the first 6 months put the crib in your room. • Do not share the bed with you child.
