  1. 2006 SAE Clean Snowmobile Challenge Team Members: Steve Battaglia, Brian Belmont, Dan Bughbee, Kevin Gastle Mike Ide, Kelly McRory, Eric Peckham, Dan Sweeney, Greg Tilley

  2. 2006 Competition Goals • Create a clean and reliable naturally aspirated four stroke snowmobile. • Mate an M-10 suspension to an Edge chassis to create the best ride and drive. • Lower emissions and quite exhaust noise.

  3. Team History • Two first place finishes (2000, 2005) • Lowest Emissions (2004) • Quietest snowmobile (2005) • Best Fuel Efficiency (2005) • Best Overall Performance (2005)

  4. Purpose of Competition • Create a more environmentally friendly snowmobile • Reduce noise pollution • Lower emissions • Increase fuel economy

  5. Design • Engine Mount • Fuel Injection • Exhaust System • Sound Reduction • Instrumentation • Suspension • Aesthetics

  6. Engine Mount Design • Cradle Design. • Utilizes chassis mounting • points. • Utilizes Engine mounting • points. • Create least amount of • Vibration.

  7. Fuel Injection • We used a closed loop Bosch Motronic System. • TPS and RPM controlled system • Programmed for lean combustion.

  8. Questions

  9. Exhaust System • Stock manifold cut down and adapted for shorter system • Flex coupler to allow for chassis movement • Lubrizol 3-Way catalytic converter • Honda Silverwing muffler (same as last year) • Exhaust exits in stock location on right sided in front of chain case

  10. Sound Reduction • Used sound reducing material from American Acoustical • PDP • VE • Hushcloth Melamine • Millenium Metal

  11. Instrumentation • EGT Avenger III Data Acquisition Unit • Tachometer, Exhaust Temperature on both cylinders and after catalytic converter, Coolant Temperature, Oil Temperature

  12. Suspension • M-10 rear suspension • Over 13 in. of travel • Has done very well in the public market for touring sleds. • Lightweight • Stock Edge Front suspension • 10 in of travel • Stiffer Springs for heavier four stroke

  13. Aesthetics • Keep the sled appealing to the general public • Kept the stock look of the hood since the edge body is widely accepted by the public. • The entire sled is set up like a stock Edge Classic with the M-10
