  2. The Open Door Policy (1899) was adopted by the US. so that the U.S. could increase U.S. trade with China. U.S. Secretary of State John Hay

  3. Through President Roosevelt’s Big Stick policy, the U.S. built up its navy in Latin America to protect U.S. investments there. “Speak softly and carry a big stick.”

  4. Through President Taft’s Dollar Diplomacy policy, the U.S. used money to promote growing U.S. investments in Latin America President William Howard Taft (1909 – 1913)
