  1. Growth of plants Group members (position) .4E (09) Hon Ka Kit (designer) .4E (10) Lam wing yan (overall planning) .4E (12) Lee Sze Chui (Information search) .4E (21) Tin Nga Hon (designer) .4E (24) Wong Ho Wai (Information search) .4E (27) Chueng Ho Yin (experiment) .4E (42) Yau Ka Ho (experiment)

  2. Hypothesis • Plants need to absorb water, carbon dioxide and light to have a healthy growth.

  3. Our Objective • We’re going to have a experiment to investigate the effects of water, carbon dioxide and light intensity to a plants. • We expect the experiment can support our hypothesis and find out the importance (if the plants lack for it, what will happened?) of the 3 kinds of substance to the plants.

  4. Experiment Now, we prepare 5 different conditons to the plants Plant A _ lack of water Plant B _ lack of carbon dioxide (covered with a plastic bag) Plant C _ lack of light (put in a dark room) Plant D _ lack of water, CO2, light (put in a dark room & covered with a plastic bag) Plant E _ contain water, CO2, light for growing

  5. Results Plant A _ didn’t grow ( lack of water) Plant B _ didn’t grow ( lack of carbon dioxide) Plant C _ had a poor growth ( lack of light ) Plant D _ didn’t grow ( lack of water, CO2 and light) Plant E _ good growth ( contain water, CO2 and light)

  6. Conclusion • We observed that water, carbon dioxide and light are important for growing of plants. • If a plant lacks of water, it will not grow. It means that water is a necessaries for growing. Water provide essential materials to the plants. • If a plant lacks of carbon dioxide, it will not grow. It means that carbon dioxide is a necessaries for growing. Carbon dioxide is a material for photosynthesis. Both of water and CO2 is needed to make carbohydrates. • If a plant lacks of light, it will have a poor growth. It means that light is needed for healthy growth.

  7. Photosynthesis • Photosynthesis is a process by which carbohydrates are made from simple inorganic chemicals using light energy from the sun. It is an anabolic process. In plants, carbohydrates are made from carbon dioxide and water. Oxygen is released as a by-product. • Carbon dioxide + water carbohydrates + O2 • During photosynthesis, light is absorbed by chlorophyll.
