  1. PIERRE AULAS ART OF NOSE – Olfactory Artistic Director • Other brands quickly placed their trust in Pierre. He thus became the olfactory consultant for the largest brands in French perfumery, including Clarins Fragrance Group. • Strengths • « I speak myclients’ and the brands’ language, thanks to my marketing studies. I understand their trade for having practised it, as well as their vocabulary and expectations. But I also speak the language of perfumers (raw ingredients, accords, olfactory trace …). My well-trained nose is acute enough to enable me to dialogue with them and propose orientations. • I love to look after the development of fragrances without focusing on the strictly commercial aspect. I am a kind of interpreter, a translator. • My clients also benefit from my knowledge and understanding of the international market and perfume project development, as well as my in-depth experience of perfume houses and my vision of each brand’s territory. » • Landmarks • 1988: Degree from Sup de Co Dijon. • 1990: Product leader for Famar. • 1991-1993: Hygiene-beauty product leader for Carrefour. • 1993-1997: Body Care sales manager at Mane • 1997-2001:Fine Perfumery Key Accounts manager at Firmenich. • Since 2001: Freelance Olfactory Artistic Director. “Like a midwife, I deliver new scents into the world" Life and career It was almost by chance that Pierre went into the perfume business. He is neither from Grasse nor the son of a nose, so there was nothing to suggest this would become his chosen career. When he took charge of marketing development for the beauty products of a major retail company, he was introduced to fragrance composition companies and perfumers he could call upon to develop his product ranges. His olfactory skills were noted by perfume house Mane, which recruited and trained him. His combination of marketing and olfactory skills quickly marked him out as an ideal middle man between labels and noses, and over a five-year period he was placed at the head of a number of projects, notably at L’Oréal. It was this success that prompted Swiss giant Firmenich to offer him a position managing Key Accounts in the area of fine perfumery. Pierre accepted the role under one condition: that he would be able to work with Mugler Parfums, a brand that fascinates him because of its creativity and olfactory choices. This turning point in his life allowed him to meet Vera Strübi, the former President of Thierry Mugler Parfums, whose audacity and intuition never ceased to astonish him. They worked together for ten years, completing numerous projects. Their great complicity, founded on genuine respect and a common olfactory sensitivity, led to the creation of Mugler Cologne, Alien, les Jardins d’Etoile, la Part des Anges and many others. In fact, it was Vera Strübi who encouraged Pierre to leave the beaten track in 2001 to found Art of Nose consulting, his olfactory development consultancy. His first client was Vera, of course.
