  1. Lesson 14- Component System Object Correlation: Ontologies’ Use in the OOMIApril 16, 2013

  2. Ontologies’ Use in the OOMI • Primary use of an Ontology in the OOMI • Provide basis for defining standard representation for entities in a federation (Federation Class Representation(FCR)) • Serve as the basis for the method used to establish correspondence between component representation (Component Class Representation (CCR) and standard representation (FCR) of entities in the federation

  3. Providing Basis for Defining Standard Representation of Entities in the Federation • From Figure III-1 Dataflow Diagram of OOMI OWL model, terms contained in Federation Ontology Library which match component entity are used to provide standard representation (FCR) of entity in FIOM • The figure also provides an overview of the process required to match a component entity with a term in the Federation Ontology • Component entity, as represented by an XML Schema, is first converted into a corresponding CCR-OWL class • Reasoning engines then used to locate a term matching the CCR-OWL class in the Federation Ontology • The Matched CCR-OWL class is then used to create a corresponding FCR for use in resolving representational differences between CCR and FCR

  5. Additional Capability Provided by Ontology • Provides capability to search an industry, organization, or domain-specific ontology for terminology related to the federation domain • Import relevant information into the Federation Ontology • Supplement the industry, organization, or domain specific ontology with federation unique terminology, and • Capture the federation unique terminology to support industry, organization, or domain-specific ontology change recommendation
