  1. Other Distribution of MODIS Data MODIS Land Collection 5 Workshop Jan. 17, 2007 Robert Wolfe NASA GSFC Code 614.5

  2. DAAC Unique Ordering Interfaces Getting MODIS Data • Order from DAAC through EOS Data Gateway • response is a few hours • services (e.g. subsetting) available for some products • Get data from DAAC data pools • most recently produced data are on-line and available via FTP • Get data from other sources (LAADS, Science team sites, MODIS Rapid Response, direct broadcast, etc.)

  3. Other Distribution • LAADS (L1 and Cloud Mask) • MODIS Land Rapid Response • UMD Fire Mapper • GLCF (VCC, VCF) • Boston U. (Albedo & Land Cover CMGs) • Montana (NPP improved) • etc ...

  4. MODLAND Websitehttp://modis-land.gsfc.nasa.gov/

  5. Quick LAADS Web Tour http://ladsweb.nascom.nasa.gov/

  6. Browsing the Image Archive

  7. Search and Order

  8. Geographic and Parameter Subsetting • Allows for custom design of delivered products, reducing bandwidth and researcher storage requirements • Parameter subsetting particularly valuable for “fat” Level-3 Atmosphere products • Involves some delay for file preparation, but runs rapidly in a disk-to-disk environment • Subsetting engine is prototype for future “custom” products

  9. Ordering and Acquiring Data • Availability: • L1 & Atmosphere products immediately available by ftp • Search and order will stage data immediately • Exceptions: • Only last 30 days of L1B data online (request by POD) • Post-processing is needed to subset by parameter (SDS) or geography

  10. LAADS FTP Access • Directory structure: allData/<collection>/<product_name>/ <year>/<day_of_year>/<file_name> • Example: ftp://ladsweb.nascom.nasa.gov/allData/5/MOD35_L2/2007/008/MOD35_L2.A2007008.0710.005.2007009173622.hdf  Collection 5; Cloud mask; Jan. 8, 2007; Granule 07:10 ftp://ladsweb.nascom.nasa.gov/

  11. UMD Fire Mapper • Active fires • Email alerts • Subsets http://http://maps.geog.umd.edu/

  12. MODIS Land Rapid Response • Browse-and-click interface • Calendar-based layout • Multiple spatial resolutions, multiple band combinations, multiple products • Gallery images keyword-searchable and georeferenced (“world file” available for GIS users) • Link to L1 data at the LAADS http://ladsweb.nascom.nasa.gov/

  13. UMD Global Land Cover Facility (GLCF) MODIS VCC and VCF Goodes and Geo Projs http://glcf.umiacs.umd.edu/data/modis

  14. Boston University BRDF/Albedo Land Cover and Dynamics CMG products in Binary Format http://www-modis.bu.edu/

  15. U. Montana – NPP Improved NPP product • ftp access • tiles and geotiff mosaics http://www.ntsg.umt.edu/modis/
