  3. Student Service Learning All students must earn 75 hours of community service before they graduate. FCPS has many of these hours infused into the essential curriculum. Students who wish to earn meritorious service may turn in their hours to Ms. Mummert for extra recognition.

  9. Test Prep • THS—Free SAT Prep Sessions-1 hour after school in A220 on these dates: January 26th March 8th May 3rd June 1st • Forms available on table.

  10. FCPS On-Line Course for SAT • SAT Prep Course-561100 -.5 credit This is an on-line course covering both verbal, math and test strategies. There is still room is the March sessions . **Register with your School Counselor.

  13. Sample Resume • Start a resume • Choose a format • Update information every few months It will help you when it is time to apply to college or for scholarships or when you look for a job.

Career & Technology • Programs are all listed in brochure or on CTC Web page. • Students must arrange to shadow their program choice with Ms. Helmold in the guidance office. • During the shadow experience, students will receive an application. If they wish to apply, they complete the application and return it to their school counselor. • Most CTC programs are proposed to be for two years but CTC may accept students interested in attending just for their senior year if space is available. • If accepted into the program, their schedule will be adjusted to ½ day academic at THS and ½ day program at CTC. Transportation will be provided to and from CTC.

  16. College Application Process Begin to make college visits in spring and summer. Complete college application in fall of senior year. Enclose an essay or personal statement. Begin working on these in the summer. Complete Transcript Release form, Brag Sheets and Resume that you receive in your summer packet. Counselors will not complete requests without brag sheets and resumes. Ask teachers for recommendation letters. Give at least two weeks notice. Ask personally and in private. Be specific about your request. Request that College Board and ACT send scores to colleges of your choice.

  17. College Essay Don’t over think it. Be Yourself !! Keep it short..a few paragraphs is perfect. Make it interesting and unique. Let you personality shine through. You must proofread and possibly have another adult proof it as well. It should not be a repeat of your resume. Be honest. Keep it focused. Don’t ramble.

Cooperative Work Study • Available to 12th grade students. • Students employed part-time under supervision of employer and work-study coordinator. • Students earn high school credit while working during the school day, evenings, and weekends. • Most assignments are for 2 credits and two periods of the school day. • Students MUST take Career Research and Development II course in order to participate in the WS program. • Students provide their own transportation • An application process is required before approval to participate.

  20. Internships • Available to 11th and 12th grade students who wish to explore a career or major they are interested in. • Students are placed with mentors working in the field of their future career choice. • Positions may be paid or unpaid. • Students are required to complete assignments and time sheets. • Students must provide their own transportation. • An application process is required before approval to participate.

  21. Open Campus • Available to 12th grade students. • Students enroll and take classes at local colleges and are dismissed from part to the school day in order to participate. • Students may receive high school credit for English through successful completion of EN101. • Students must provide proof of enrollment and at least partial payment in order to participate. • An application process is required before approval in the program. • Students must provide their own transportation.

  22. Student Service Learning • Available to 11th and 12th grade students. • Students help community agencies or serve as tutors to elementary, middle or high school individuals in need of academic support. • Students earn high school credit for enrollment in the program. • Requirements for GPA, attendance and discipline must be met in order to participate. • An application process is required before approval to participate. • Students provide their own transportation.

  23. Transition EducationGeneral Information • Students interested in any of the programs should see Mrs. Mummert in A115 for application materials to sign up before the end of this school year. • Students are expected to participate in any assigned program for the duration of the semester(s) in which they are enrolled. • Students assigned to programs are representing THS and are expected to conduct themselves in a professional and responsible manner at their placements. • FCC representative-February 21st-7:00p.m.-THS
