  2. The League’s Mission The Junior League of Kansas City, Missouri (JLKCMO) is a 501 (c)(3) organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.

  3. The Membership 1,400 members (nearly 500 Active participants) Residents of Missouri and Kansas 86% are employed full-time or part-time 65% are married and 57% have children All have a shared desire to improve our community

More than a Century in Kansas City JLKCMO was founded in 1914 Started the first public kindergarten in Kansas City Helped in the creation or founding of:  Children’s TLC  Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art Docent Program  CASA of Jackson County  Jazzoo/Zoo Learning Fund  Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired

Junior League of Kansas City, MissouriFundraising The JLKCMO operates on funds raised by our volunteers, which are allocated back into the community in support of our mission at a current rate of 83 cents for every dollar raised. Holiday Mart 2014 – Great Shopping for a Great Cause Annual four-day shopping extravaganza for 20,000 shoppers October 16-19, 2014 at Bartle Hall More than $9 million raised to support community projects since 1988 Take Five – Social Fundraiser started in 2012 JLKCMO Corporate Sponsors JLKCMO Member Donations

  6. JLKCMO Community Resources Three sources of assistance: Community Volunteers and Grants (CV&G) Volunteers only, Volunteers and Grants, Grants only Community Endowment Fund Funding only Action Team Volunteers only

  7. League Attributes Business year runs from June 1 through May 31 The same timeline applies for all volunteer & funding resources We rotate all our volunteer positions, including leaders, every 12 months We start with a blank slate each year for community partners

Community Volunteers and Grants (CV&G) • The CV&G resource provides League volunteers and funds to support programming at a small number of 501(c)(3) agencies in the five-county region • Application deadline: August 1, 2014 by 3 p.m. • Application is online at www.jlkc.org, Community Impact > Community Volunteers and Grants • Support is for June 1, 2015 to May 31, 2016 • Annual disbursement (total amount varies each year) divided among an estimated 7-12 recipients • Volunteer hours spread among approximately 100+ members

CV&G Successful Applications: • Are mindful of our Mission • Link funding requests to volunteer opportunities • Provide evening and weekend volunteer options >86% of our members are employed full-time or part-time • Give specific information about the volunteer needs, and also indicate where there is flexibility in the program or project • Are able to establish a framework for measuring impact of their program, and can report findings back to JLKCMO

CV&G Volunteers options ideally should: Be Mission-driven Have an education/training component Have a program or project focus (no fundraising) Be descriptive of volunteer responsibilities Utilize a number of volunteers: range of 5-20 Occur during evening and weekend hours Anticipate a year-long opportunity of approximately 40 hours per volunteer Provide unique programming designed especially for our partnership

CV&G Funding requests: Should be Mission-driven Provide measured outcomes of impact in community Enhance sustainability of agency Utilize collaboration Be mindful the average funding ranges from $500-$10,000 per project Note: JLKCMO is completing our last year of the children’s nutrition and fitness Impact area in 2014-2015. Current funding requests for 2015-2016 will be not necessarily be limited to a particular area as we work toward the possible development of a new or multiple focus areas moving forward.

CV&G Timeline Application deadline: August 1, 2014 Review and follow-up by CV&G Committee JLKCMO Board vote: December 2014 Notification of Board vote: January 2015 JLKCMO Membership vote: late February 2015 Notification to successful applicants: March 2015 Contracts prepared and signed: April 2015 Implementation: June 2015 to May 2016

Community Endowment Fund The Community Endowment Fund offers short-term, immediate financial assistance to community agencies demonstrating critical need Maximum grant: $5,000 Annual distribution is $40,000-$50,000 Anticipate a 60-day turn-around Critical needs may include, but are not limited to: unbudgeted expenses sudden loss of funding

Community Endowment Fund, continued Grant Application ison-line at www.jlkc.org, Community Impact > Community Endowment Fund Support documentation includes: Agency mission statement IRS 501(c)(3) tax exempt status letter List of Board of Directors and Officers Fiscal year-end balance sheet and income statement Program budget (revenues and expenses by line item) Other sources of projected income Assistance not available for: political causes, staff salaries, religious purposes, individuals, or fundraising initiatives

  16. Action Team (A-Team)Provides Volunteers for… “Done In A Day” type projects: 3-4 hour shifts at a time 3-15 volunteers Volunteers select what they want to support Examples:  Races  Events  Auctions  Fundraisers  Face Painting  Invitation Stuffing  Volunteer Appreciation Parties, etc.

  17. A-Team: When, What, How? Application on-line at www.jlkc.org, Community Impact > Action Team Apply early, preferably 2-3 months in advance Applications accepted year-round Volunteers available August 2014 through May 2015 Evening/weekend projects ideal A-Team Committee Chair contacts agency with availability and clarifies details; lead contact assigned for each project
