SQMDG Background Initially set up by Eric Martindale, Glasgow Microbiology group – Oct 2003 Representatives of other disciplines attended IBMS – request to expand to include all disciplines Functioning as a multidisciplinary group since Oct 2004 IBMS funding Commercial sponsorship CPD (IBMS) points awarded

Objectives To hold meetings for Presentation of lectures relevant to quality management Promotion of a good standard of quality management To provide a forum for discussion of matters of relevance to the organisation of Quality Management Systems To encourage a high standard of professional competence in Quality Management Assist and support new and existing Quality Managers and promote networking wherever possible

  4. 2 Meetings/year Attendance : 60 - 80 delegates May – Perth Lectures Break out discussion groups – discipline specific, suggested topics November – Glasgow Lectures Social event CPA representative usually speaks

November 2008 topics Traceability and measurement of uncertainty F3 Assuring the quality of examinations Impacts on several other standards Clarification available on CPA support website Competence and evidence B9 Staff training and education Tools and techniques for effective incident management (Martin Bowman, Gael Quality)‏

  6. November 2008 topics (cont)‏ Validation D1 Procurement and management of equipment EU GMP Annex 11 legislation Relevant to Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Authority inspections Corporate Homicide (‘Legal Eagle’ Norma Shippin)‏

  7. Reasons for success An active committee! Representatives from all disciplines and country wide Shared tasks and quality people 4 committee meetings held immediately after the May and Nov events (to assess if successful and how to improve)‏ and just prior to them to organise speakers etc e mail also useful Alex Cochrane (IBMS web master) is very helpful (http://www.ibms.org/ - quick find ‘Quality Managers’)‏
