  1. Classroom Times Mrs. RaingeNovember 7-11, 2011 Reminders Reading… We will be reading the novel Frindle. Students will complete a graphic organizer booklet to review the following reading skills: character traits, cause and effect, plot, sequence of events, main ideas, summarizing and identifying figurative language. The students will be doing a series of skill building activities this week in their groups. *Remember to read for 20 minutes each night and have reading log signed. Please encourage your child to reach AR goals. Vocabulary: reputation, acquire, essential, frantically, procedures, complex, emphasize, ruckus • Anthology of Poetry Deadline November 28th – Write a poem • Graded papers: Tuesday • Spelling Test: Thursday • Weekly Math Quiz, Weekly Reading Assessment: Friday • Frindle T-Shirt Activity: Friday • Please look at the guidelines for the • T-shirt given out in class. • Accelerated Reading should be done • each day. Please sign the new Reading • Log daily. Math… Language Arts & Writing Students will begin adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers with uncommon denominators using the Least Common Denominator (LCD). We will continue to practice previously learned skills (especially multiplication, division, and reducing) daily. Please encourage your child to study multiplication facts each night. Remember to complete practice problems Mon.-Thurs. and study multiplication facts for homework.* Practice skills on www.vmaithlive.com! The students will work on Possessives, Plurals, mechanics, editing, and Inflected Endings. Introduction to Descriptive Writing and Using figurative language. Experiments will be documented in composition notebooks. We will continue to study matter, properties, the scientific method, acids and bases, and chemical and physical changes through PowerPoints and review games such as Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.
