  3. INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS & APPROVALS Although Power Devices has not yet obtained ISO 9000 listing we have been periodically audited and approved by many of our major customers such as Spoornet.

INNOVATIONS • Bonded-fin heatsinks have revolutionised thermal management of power semiconductors. • Fibre-optic monitoring of rectifiers & substation parameters has been written into railway specifications. • Inverse thinking on the construction of high power rectifiers has changed tender specification for maintenance. • The first combined water-cooled power semiconductor / fuse units are now virtually industry standards in high power rectifiers

  8. AURUM SUBSTATION Microelettrica Power Devices was responsible for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of a 3KV rectifier, AC/DC control panel, protection and control cables and complete overhaul of primary circuit breaker.

  9. TRACTION RECTIFIERS Microelettrica Power Devices is a leader in the design and development of compact, ultra reliable 3kV DC substation rectifiers.

BATTERY CHARGERS Microelettrica Power Devices is a leader in the design and development of high reliability substation chargers. • The chargers are configured with main transformer, fully controlled secondary thyristor rectifier, output load resistor and DC filter choke. • Thyristor control is via the industry standard P4500 analogue card, which allows for the firing of of thyristors in inverse parallel or DC bridge configuration with voltage and current feedback.

  11. SF6 PRIMARY CIRCUIT BREAKER Through years of collaboration with Consolidated Power Maintenance, Microelettrica Power Devices has been responsible for the wiring and commissioning of SF6 Breakers

  12. WONDERSTONE Reverse-polarity water-cooled thyristor controlled rectifier The control system on this rectifier was developed by Microelettrica Power Devices and is the first of its kind in South Africa.

  13. MEGAWATT POWER High Power Heavy Industrial Equipment Rectifier with saturable reactor control for Manganese refinery. • 25 kA/185V water-cooled 12 pulse Hexaphase with IPT configuration. • Single diodes with series fuses each monitored for temperature by PT 100 encapsulated elements.

  18. OTHER SPECIALITIES R & D Facilities Our industrial testing facility is currently being rebuilt for higher power. R & D Facility: All our products start here. Pilot runs are first made in R & D and followed by batch production. Test results are recorded to ISO 9001 Spec.

  19. OTHER SPECIALITIES In-house Publishing • All marketing material is done in-house. This includes: Banners, Manuals, Catalogues and Pamphlets. • Microelettrica Power Devices has the facility to produce electronic prototype 3 dimensional drawings.
