Teesside • Four Local Authorities - Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland, Stockton on Tees • Combined 0-19 population of around 140,000 • 22%-35% of children living in poverty • Admission rates for self harm have remained broadly the same over 5 years but remain significantly higher than the national average

Emotional Health and Wellbeing 2012 position • Tees PCT commissioned specialist CAMH services from Tees Esk and Wear Valley Mental Health Trust (TEWV) • Tees PCT Public Health Commissioning – Mental Health First Aid capacity building • LA’s also commissioned CAMH services from TEWV • Some awareness of VCSO’s delivering in schools • Legacy of TAMHS x 4 • On-going Tees CAMHS specialist review

Our local issues: • Feedback from TEWV regarding inappropriate specialist CAMHs referrals • Stakeholder feedback that children were unable to access specialist CAMHs • Head teachers reporting increased need • Concern over provision of targeted services in school • Inconsistent and confusing pathways • LA investment rationalisation

  5. What did the BOND Pilot do for us? • 5 workshops held April – July 2012 • Engagement of 40 schools, VCSO’s and commissioners • Facilitating the conversation • Challenge within the workshops to identify key issues • Providing practical best practice examples • Direct support to VCSO’s – On-going VCSO capacity building programme

  6. Emotional Health and Wellbeing 2013 position • Operationalisation of new Community CAMHs • Development of new outcomes framework – with an emphasis on outcomes and engagement of children, young people and families • Extended coverage of children’s IAPT • VCSO capacity building programme • Engagement of each LA Health and Wellbeing Board

  7. New opportunities not challenges! • Change in Children’s commissioning landscape • Increasing autonomy of schools • Ensuring alignment of Public Mental Health Strategies • CAMHS secondary uses data set • On going BOND engagement
