  2. What is Three Mile Island? • Three Mile Island is an Nuclear generating station in Londonderry township, Dauphin country Pennsylvania.

  3. WHAT HAPPENED? • At 4:00am Wednesday morning of March 28,1979 a nuclear power plant the meltdown was caused by a non-nuclear cooling system . • The cooling system caused the power plant to released radiation due to mechanical or electrical failures.

  4. Evacuation • Over the course of 5 days the problem had become more clear and was brought under control. • In the course of those 5 pregnant woman and preschool children that lived within a 20 mile radius was evacuated from their homes for safety

  5. Gases • It was a scare for the local people of Harrisburg Pennsylvania even though there was an attempt to keep the situation from escalating into everyone in a panic • Lucky there were no injuries. Even though some radioactive gas was released it was not enough to cause any dose above background levels to local residents
