Basketball Facts • Intermittent exercise with bouts of short, intense activity punctuating longer periods of low‐level, moderate‐intensity exercise and recovery. • Large number of discrete movements, each lasting < 3 s, with frequent changes in intensity. • The physiological requirements place considerable demands on the cardiovascular and metabolic capacities of players. • The majority of play time is devoted to activities aerobic in nature. The glycolysis makes an important contribution to the energy demands of basketball. • In women's basketball, it has been reported that the intensity developed in an official game is not reached in practice sessions.
