  2. Inspections and Reviews Since 2009 CSSIW has published 75 reports specifically on safeguarding and protecting adults and children. These are available on CSSIW website http://wales.gov.uk/cssiwsubsite/newcssiw/publications under the heading: “Reports on our findings of social services in Wales”

Francis Report Robert Francis press statement: “ We need a patient centred culture, no tolerance of non compliance with fundamental standards, openness and transparency, candour to patients, strong cultural leadership and caring, compassionate nursing, and useful and accurate information about services…”

Adult Protection Monitoring Report 2010-12 - Key Findings: • Differences in the rate of referrals across Wales • 2:1 women to men are victims • Most common victim are older women • Most victims lived in their own home in the community • Staff were the people most likely to be alleged to be responsible for abuse - 44% of referrals

  9. Key questions • Why are the main themes so consistent year on year? • How can we understand more about outcomes for vulnerable people? • What is CSSIW going to do about it?

  10. Challenges for CSSIW& partners • Undertake work to understand the factors behind the large percentage of referrals from care homes • How successful are strategies to support good quality social care services, e.g. - the Bill and the White Paper? • How can we work better with the Care Council for Wales re workforce issues?

  11. Most importantly… How do we help older people who are vulnerable find a voice that is heard?
