  • Look at your bubble map.

    • Do you have similar “grandchild” bubbles under each viewpoint? (Look at how the green bubbles on each side are the same.)

  • The “great-grandchildren” (blue bubbles) will be the Arabic numerals under the capital letters.

    • Instead of having similar “grandchild” bubbles under each viewpoint as in the previous example, do you have different “grandchildren” as in the example below? (Look at the yellow ones.)

How to turn your bubble map into a formal outline

  • Now for the thesis. For this position paper, the thesis will be YOUR position on the topic in the center bubble. You have 3 choices:

  • You agree with the left bubble.

  • You agree with the right bubble.

  • You think that sometimes the left bubble is correct and sometimes the right bubble is. (This is a HYBRID thesis, and you must specify the conditions under which each is true.)

  • Your thesis must:

  • be a simple sentence (preferably)

  • be written in third person

  • be precise and specific. Avoid clichés, metaphors, and words like colorful, interesting, and exciting.

  • ask to have more said about it. It should demand some proof.
