  2. 1809-Edgar Poe is born on January 19, in Boston. 1811- Edgar's mother, Elizabeth, dies and he is adopted.1826- Edgar attends the University of Virginia. He starts to drink and racks up a lot of debt; he had to quit school the following year.

  3. 1828-Edgar lies about his age and joins the Army.1835-Poe wins a contest for “The Manuscript Found in a Bottle.” 1836-Poe marries his 13 year old cousin, Virginia. They have three children.

  4. 1839- Poe publishes his first volume of short stories, “Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque.” 1847- Virginia dies, Poe becomes very depressed. 1849-Poe dies in Baltimore Maryland.

In Interesting facts: • Poe’s death is mysterious and no one knows how he really died. • Poe’s father died mysteriously. • Poe was buried in an unmarked grave, and when a stone was ordered; it was destroyed in a train accident. • Every year someone leaves roses and a bottle of whiskey on his grave.
