  1. Coach The Use Of Laser Aiming Devices CMC 0933-FALT-2008

  2. Overview • Design of Laser Aiming Devices • Mounting the Laser Aiming Device • Boresighting/Zeroing the Laser Aiming Device • Weapons Presentation

  3. Learning Objectives

  4. Method/ Media • Evaluation • Safety/ Cease Training • Admin Notes

  5. Design of the Laser Aiming Devices Description of the AN/PEQ-15/16 • Visible/ Infrared (IR) light for aiming/ illuminating • Provides accurate target aquisition in low light/CQB without NVG’s • Provide covert target acquisition in low/no light with NVG’s • Handheld/ weapon mounted • 3 laser classification: Class 1,3a,3b • AN/PEQ-16 equipped with white light illuminatorC

  6. Design of the Laser Aiming Devices Specification

  7. Design of the Laser Aiming Devices Components • Visible Aiming Laser • IR Aiming Laser • IR Illuminator • Tri-Function Lens Cap • LED Status Indicator • White Light Illuminator (AN/PEQ-16) • Illuminator Adjusters

  8. Design of the Laser Aiming Devices AN/PEQ-15 Components

  10. Design of the Laser Aiming DevicesModes of Operation

  11. Design of the Laser Aiming Devices Mode Activation • Momentary Operation • Continuous Operation • Automatic Turnoff • Remote Cable Switch

  12. Mounting the Laser Aiming Devices • Three mounting configurations: Top, Left, or Right Side • Loosen clamping knob • Position device on the rail • Hand tighten clamping knob CW • Turn additional 180 degrees CW • Note where it is mounted for retention of zero

  13. Boresighting/Zeroing of the Laser Aiming Devices Adjustments AN/PEQ-15

  14. Boresighting/Zeroing of the Laser Aiming Devices Adjustments AN/PEQ-16

  15. Boresighting/Zeroing of the Laser Aiming Devices Preset Zero • Rotate Azimuth/Elevation adjusters CCW to end of travel • Rotate Azimuth/Elevation adjusters CW 2.5 turns

  16. Boresighting/Zeroing of the Laser Aiming Devices Boresighting • Utilized with the Laser Boresight System (LBS) and the following offset guidelines. AN/PEQ-15 AN/PEQ-16

  17. Boresighting/Zeroing of the Laser Aiming Devices Zeroing Procedures • On the 25m zeroing target mark the designated strike point and designated strike zone AN/PEQ-15 AN/PEQ-16

  18. Boresighting/Zeroing of the Laser Aiming Devices Zeroing Procedures • Turn the visible aiming laser on • Fire a three round shot group at the aimpoint • Note the center of the shot group relative to the designated strike point • Retighten the rail grabber • Move center of the shot group to the designated strike point • Repeat until the center of the shot group is in the center of the designated strike point • Once the zero has been achieved, apply a positive load to each adjuster • Turn on Illumination Beam and center it over the aiming laser

  19. Boresighting/Zeroing of the Laser Aiming Devices Co-witness Procedures • Used in conjunction with a zeroed RCO for a quick Boresight at 100m • Place a chem light on a target at 100m • Assume a supported prone position • Turn on the visible aiming laser • Aim at the chem light with the tip of the chevron • While the shooter maintains steady aim at the chem light another shooter finds the visible laser and adjusts it to the chem light • Once the visible aim laser is positioned on the chem light place a positive load on the adjusters

  20. Weapons Presentation • Visible aiming laser is effective out to 250m when zeroed properly • Exact range depends on the quality of the night viewing device • To employ, laser mode selector should be on appropriate setting and activate the laser when presenting to the target • Excessive/premature activation = possible detection by the enemy • Use illuminator to scan the area

  21. QUESTIONS

  22. SUMMARY • Design of Laser Aiming Devices • Mounting the Laser Aiming Device • Boresighting/Zeroing the Laser Aiming Device • Weapons Presentation
