  3. High School Credit • 27 ½ Credits Required to Graduate • Each trimester course with a 60% or higher equals .5 credit • 8th Graders Can earn credit for the following: 1. Algebra 1 2. Information Tech 3. Spanish 1, French 1, German 1

  4. Graduation Requirements English 4 CreditsMath 4 Credits 1 Credit Freshman English 1.5 Credit Algebra 1 1 Credit Sophomore English 1 Credit Geometry 1 Credit Junior English 1 Credit Algebra 2 1 Credit Senior English 1 math class senior year Science 3 CreditsSocial Studies 3 Credits 1 Credit in Biological Science 1 Credit US History 1 Credit in Chemistry or Applied Chem. 1 Credit World History 1 Credit in Physics or Integrated Science ½ Credit in US Civics ½ Credit in Economics Computer Education ½ Credit Information Technology (8th-12th grades) Physical Education 1 Credit Online (met through English courses) ½ Credit Intro to PE ½ Credit PE elective Visual, Performing and Applied Arts World Language 2 Credits 1 Credit 2 Credits in same World Language

  6. Timeline for Online Scheduling To-Be Seniors March 23-April 8 To-Be Juniors April 9-16 To-Be Sophomores April 17-23 To-Be Freshmen April 24-30 Late Requests May 1-6 • Access for all students will begin at 3 pm on the first day and close at 3 pm on the last day.

  7. Locations for Online Scheduling • Students may schedule on any computer that is web accessible. • Most students will schedule from home. • Help is available after school in the HS library. • Google Chrome is problematic

  9. Online Scheduling Instructions • Go to www.mhscounseling.weebly.com . • Under Current Happenings • See Online Scheduling Information 4. Click on Parent/Student Access link.

  10. Under Arena Scheduling click Courses for 2012-2013 to get started.

  11. By using the slide bar at the bottom of the screen or the list at the top right, you can search for classes by period, by course name, by subject, or by teacher. You can click on the letters of the alphabet to see courses by name. You can see seats available.

  12. Notice, the tabs across the top of your screen: Available, Selected Courses, Submit Classes & Messages. When you log in, the screen will be set to available. Click on the letters to see courses that start with A, B, C…..

Scheduling Format • 8th grade students will schedule the following required courses when scheduling opens on April 24 @ 3:00p.m. • Freshman English A and B • U.S. History A and B • Biology A and B or Animal Science A and B • Algebra 1 A and B or Geometry A and B (C can be done either 9th or 10th grade year) • Introduction to Physical Education (P.E.) _ Possible World Language 8th grade students will schedule 4-6 elective courses (examples: Band, Choir, Foreign Language, Art, Computers, etc…)

  14. Creating your Schedule Students will self schedule on line We give you access to the website: www.mason.k12.mi.us You will be assigned a user name and password. You schedule your required courses & electives choosing the trimester, hour, and teacher. This can be done from home or school. Each grade will have access at a specific time: 8th graders will schedule April 24-30. May 1-6 for late schedulers.

  15. Use the master schedule grid to map out a potential schedule. This will save time and energy searching for classes. It will also let you know if you have a potential schedule conflict ahead of time. PLEASE READ ALL COURSE DESCRIPTIONS and PREREQUISITES. PLEASE CONSULT GRAD REQUIREMENT SHEET. HINT: CHECK FOR CLOSED CLASSES AHEAD OF TIME. THIS WILL SAVE TIME.

  16. Make your Selections: • To add a class to your schedule, click on the + Add button next to the desired class.

  17. To see the classes you have selected click Selected classes. DO NOT HIT SUBMIT!! Classes can be deleted from this screen

  18. Build your schedule: • Continue to select classes for your schedule until you have scheduled all 5 for Trimesters 1, 2, & 3.

  19. Schedule Changes Drops and Adds • In order to request a schedule change, submit a drop / add form to the counseling office. No schedule change requests will be taken over the phone. The deadlines for these forms are: • Form is due two weeks prior to start of each Trimester.
