  1. By the Numbers

In May NAHU received more than 825 press hits. So far in 2014, NAHU has received 4,200 press hits. In 2013, NAHU received more than 11,000 press hits. In 2012, NAHU received more than 7,500 press hits. In 2011, NAHU received more than 4,400 press hits.

  3. May in Print Media

To buy insurance with the help of an insurance broker, go to the California Assn. of Health Underwriters website at http//www.cahu.org. “I have this sick feeling that there are these people out there who have made unintentional errors, and in a few years will be subject to massive tax bills,” said Jessica Waltman, [NAHU] senior vice president for government affairs. “When employers are faced with double-digit rate increases, to add a few additional percentage points to the renewal just makes that health insurance less affordable and makes it less likely for them to recruit additional employees to provide better services,” says Tom Harte, [NAHU] president. Insurance agents Craig Gussin in San Diego and Kelly Fristoe in Texas helped dozens of clients switch plans just before the enrollment deadline when clients realized their doctors weren't covered. Now, they're struggling to help clients who realized they were in that position.
  4. Importance of Media Coverage

We often send these clips to policymakers so they are aware of the issues we are facing. The more high-profile the media coverage is, the more attention policymakers pay to the issues that are important to us. Media placement means an increased understanding of the issues in the public, which means more people both inside and outside the industry can lend their support. Media attention increases NAHU name recognition and branding. We do not pay for our media placements, which means that all of the coverage that our members receive is free business promotion. When the media sees NAHU members as expert resources, you increase your outreach to perspective clients. As our increase in press hits shows, a little media coverage garners more media coverage. If a NAHU member gives good information and provides a solid sound byte for a reporter, other reporters will want to use that member as a resources as well.
