Why have a GATE Symposium? • Gives our GATE and Honor students a forum to present their interests and display their creativity • Gives our students a chance to develop their critical thinking skills and enhance their research skills • Allows for the development of collaboration and communication skills • Provides challenges and academic competition which leads to academic confidence

  3. INVALUABLE! • Our Symposium focuses on the ESSENTIAL QUESTION: What is the UNIVERSAL THEME resulting from this project and how might this project add VALUE to our society?

What is the Criteria? • The students must identify a Universal Theme • The students must identify a Value • The students must make sure that their project/Topic is cross-curricular • The students must make sure that their project is relevant to today’s society • The presentation must be research based • The presentation must be organized and professional • The project must go through the symposium process. (Mentorship, research, organization, collaboration, student centered work, etc) • The project must display novelty

What is the Process? • Introduction to Symposium • Brainstorm Ideas/Find Groups/Find Mentors/Find Topic • Research/Begin to highlight the Values and Universal Themes of the Topic • Organize Research • Student Data/Primary Source (optional for seventh grade) • Focus on Novelty • Work on Displays/Technology • Work on Presentation • Present Project at Symposium

  6. As a Parent, what do I need to do? • Just make sure that your child is here by 4:00, on Thurs, May 22nd. They will need to make sure that their projects are ready to go! • The Symposium is professional attire, school uniform, or Symposium shirt with pants, (no jeans) or skirts.
