  3. Who is Syafi’iMa’arif? Syafi’iMa’arif was born on West Sumatera, on May 31st, 1935 (78 years). Syafi’iMa’arif is called Buya. The word “Buya” comes from the Arabic word, means my father. He is as pioneer of pluralism and the teacher of moral for nation.

  4. Educational Background 1/2 The power of religious has been taught since he was very young until now. It has been guided to be sign person, both in science, religion, and society, and nationality.

  5. Educational Background 2/2 After finishing his under degree in Indonesia, he continued in Post graduate degree on History Sciences in Ohio State University, US (1982). Then he continued his Doctoral Program in Language and Short East Heritage in University of Chicago, US (1983).

  6. Syafi’iMa’arif’s Achievements He was the leader of PP Muhammadiyah (1999-2005). He was a vice president of World Conference on Religion for Peace (WCRP). He has been awarded Magsaysay Award (2008) danHabibie Award in the field of religious life in harmony (2010).

  7. Syafi’iMa’arif’s Ideas He concerns to propagate the moral messages, ethic, national character, the values Islam as “Rahmatanlil ‘alamin. He also concerns on propagation the values of the context of diversity, society, and nationality, and he is a pioneer of diversity, tolerance, peacefulness, and humanity.

  8. The Inspiring Things from Syafi’iMa’arif 1/2 He is a moslem in kaffa. He is a professor who professional in his field and integrate with religion. He is a sign person who can introspect his self. This ability is integrated in his self, and is shown in his daily life.

  9. The Inspiring Things of Syafi’iMa’arif 2/2 Even-tough he is a professor, and he has gone around the world to build the relationship among the countries, he still has low profile. He is easy to go to the traditional market to buy everything for cooking and he can cook by his self very well.

  10. Conclusion Be a light in the dark which can light things around and can solve the problem for all. Integrate between religion and science in daily life. Don’t be like “ilalang” bushes, but be like “pady” trees.
