  6. PDA OS: Windows CE • Windows CE advantages: • Windows-styled • Strong multimedia function • Windows CE .Net (4.x) now backing • Windows CE disadvantages: • Still few software • Help system still incomplete

  7. PDA OS: Palm OS • Palm OS advantages: • Becoming windows-styled • Much more software • Lower price • Palm OS disadvantages: • Percent share of market is lessening • Not strong enough in multimedia

  8. PDA Hardware • Key Features: • Portable • Touch screen • Expansion slot • Wireless LAN/Connections • Enough battery life • Enough ROM/RAM

  9. PDA Hardware: CPU • ARM architecture is widely used • Higher-clocked CPUs are prevailing • No exception to the Palm side • PDA with B.L.>20-hour becoming rare • But multimedia performance is better • Intel XScale is now at 400MHz • Our lab’s Compaq H3970 exactly is!

  10. PDA Hardware: ROM/RAM • ROM: • Can save data without battery power • OS/backup-/important-files store here • Usually 32MB (Our H3970 has 48MB) • RAM: • Can't save data without battery power • Just like PC main memory • Installed-program/data also store here • Usually 64MB

  11. PDA Hardware: Wireless LAN • A proper/popular solution for internet • Can be: • PCMCIA Card • CF Card • Built-in (Rare)

  12. PDA Hardware: Other Add-Ons • Camera: • Usually CF/SD Card • Resolution is better now • Can use as DV • GPS: • Must have a receiver (CF) • Can go with map software • Never get lost!
