  2. Things to REMEMBER Getting into college takes WORK, which should be done by the STUDENT! Parents – please let your student do the work – write the essay, fill out the application – acceptance is based on the match between student and college. Students should call for interviews, not parents.

  4. Student Role • Guide the process • Complete student “Brag Sheet” • Identify Potential Colleges • Monitor all Timelines and Deadlines • Open Dialogue with Parent • Complete the Application • Write Essays • Visit Colleges!!!

  5. Parent Role • Support their student in the College Process. • Set financial parameters for their student. • Allow your child to lead the College Application Process. • Complete student “brag sheets”. • Attend College Visits with your student. • “Keep the Ball Rolling”

  6. Parent Role Remember to: Listen Be Supportive Create a Balance Be Realistic Maintain a School Link Recognize your Student’s Successes

  7. Counselor Role • Meet with students to facilitate College Application Process. • Guide student in the College identification process. • Write letter of Recommendation. • Complete Secondary School Report. • Submit requested transcripts

  8. Demonstrated Interest - College Visitations Naviance – College Visit Sign-up Student must print confirmation and present signed pass before attending session. All students must sign up at least 48 hours in advance!!!

  9. IT’S NOT WHERE YOU GO TO COLLEGE, BUT WHAT YOU DO WHEN YOU GET THERE, THAT BUILDS TO A SUCCESSFUL, PRODUCTIVE, AND HAPPY LIFE!

Students are expected to: • Students must take ownership • Update Prospective & Active Applications • Request Transcripts in Naviance • Sign transcript release form available in the Counseling Office • Request Letters of Recommendation • Check school email daily

There are three basic sources of aid: Federal and state governments Colleges Private organizations Completing the FAFSA — the Free Application for Federal Student Aid at the following website http://www.fafsa.gov. The FAFSA is available online Jan. 1
