  3. 1. How to access eStudent menu You can access eStudent from • http://www.polyu.edu.hk/student/; or • https://www38.polyu.edu.hk/eStudent/ (Direct link); or • PolyU Homepage > myPolyU (University Portal) > eStudent You are required to login the system by using NetID & NetPassword. Please use Chrome / Internet Explorer 7 browsers for logging in the system.

  4. 2. Study Information menu In “Study Information”, you can check • subject(s) pre-assigned to you by your programme offering department; and • subjects registered by yourself; and • your subject withdrawal / credit transfer / subject exemption records

  5. 3. Personal Checklist menu In “Personal Checklist”, you can check • the period for subject registration by academic year/semester; and • your assigned earliest commencing timefor performing subject registration (i.e. start time).

  6. 4. Subject Information (I) menu In “Subject Search”, you can check subject information, subject groups, vacancy before performing subject registration. I). By Programme search Select the programme you are enrolled in and press ‘search’. II). By Subject search You can input subject category / offering department and press ‘search’. 1 2 2 1

  7. 4. Subject Information (II) menu Subject list will be shown in the search result. By clicking the subject code, you can check subject details, synopsis, subject group & timetable information, if any.

Subject Registration (I) menu Please note that Subject Registration on Web • will NOT be affected by rainstorm warning / typhoons / public holidays • will NOT be extended Important Note: Students can confirm ONCEonly for subject selection. Adjustment of subject selection could only be done during system re-opening period for each round, or during the add/drop period.

  9. 5. Subject Registration (II) menu In order to register a subject, 1. You can search subject(s) by • inputting the subject code via Basic Search; or • choosing the designated Programme & Subject Category via Advanced Search; or • choosing a previously fail subject via Retake Fail

Subject Registration (III) menu • After search a subject you want to register, you should select the subject to My Subject Shopping Cart by following steps. • Choose a subject group • Press ‘+’ button • Tick the check box to select the component(s). (You should select one component for each component type.) • Press ‘Add to Cart’ button b a c d

Subject Registration (IV) menu After selecting ALLsubjects to My Subject Shopping Cart, • Check if your selected subject credit values do not exceed the maximum number of extra credit(s) shown. • If OK, press ‘Confirm’ to submit your selection. • A confirmation page with the registered subjects and a reference code will be shown to you.

Add/Drop Period (I) • During the add/drop period, you can • add/drop subjects • retake fail subjects • adjust your personal timetable by changing component information • In addition, during the last 2 days of the add/drop period, you can also • retake a previously pass subject (except for GUR subjects) for improving grades • register on subjects outside curriculum (for students of Full-time programmes only; students of Mixed-Mode Full-time, Mixed-mode Part-time, Part-time programmes are not eligible)

Add/Drop Period (II) • The screen layout & procedures for add/drop subjects during the Add/Drop period is similar to the Subject Registrationin the previous section. • For retake a previously pass subject (except for GUR subjects) during the last 2 days of add/drop period, you can choose the subject via the Retake Pass tab page. • Register on subjects outside curriculum (for students of Full-time prog. only), you can search a subject via Subject Search and input the subject code in Basic Search.

  14. 6. Add/Drop Period (III) Important Note: If you add/drop subjects more than 4 times, your earliest commencing time to access ‘subject registration’ in the next semester will be postponed. (This arrangement is not applicable to the Summer Term Add/Drop Period and also the new students in their 1st semester.) To check your cumulative add/drop counts: • A record of your Cumulative Add/Drop Counts in a semester will be displayed to you every time you logon eStudent Subject Registration • After you process subject registration (add and/or drop subjects), the up-to-date cumulative Add/Drop counts will be updated for your reference in the confirmation page.

  15. You may select up to 5 choices with prioritization.  7. Preferred Subject Indication menu • During the process, if there is no vacancy for the subject(s) you would like to take, you may indicate your wish via Preferred Subject Indication. • Department will contact you if study places of your preferred subject become available after the subject registration or add/drop period.

Common Errors in Subject Registration (I) menu • During the subject registration exercises, you may encounter errors and will be alerted by the error messages. • Please check the error messages, if any, and fix it before you can successfully confirm your subject selection. • Some common errors will be shown to you in the next slide.

Common Errors in Subject Registration (II) • Not yet reach your earliest commencing time for Subject Registration • You can only enter the subject registration page according to the earliest commencing time assigned to you. Your earliest commencing time has been shown in the message or you can check the details from your personal checklist.

Common Errors in Subject Registration (III) • Cannot login the Subject Registration function, the webpage keeps showing ‘The function is not available...’ even though the earliest commencing time for Subject Registration is reached • Close your existing browser. Open the browser (i.e. Chrome or Internet Explorer) with eStudent website (www.polyu.edu.hk/student), input with your NetID and NetPassword. • DO NOT bookmark any individual webpage under eStudent. Please login eStudent properly via www.polyu.edu.hk/student or direct URL https://www38.polyu.edu.hk/eStudent.  

Common Errors in Subject Registration (IV) • Fail to fulfill the subject requirement for registration • You are not allowed to register on the subject if you have not fulfilled its pre-requisite/co-requisite/exclusion requirements. Please check the subject requirement listed in Subject Details or Subject Synopsis. • No vacancy for the subject group/component groups • You are not allowed to register on the subject if there is NO VACANCY. Please select other subject groups/subject components with vacancy, if any.

Common Errors in Subject Registration (V) • Class timetable clashes between 2 Subjects • You are not allowed to register on the subject(s) if there is time-clashes between your personal timetable and the subject you would like to register. Please select other subject group/components for registration. • Maximum credits to be taken in a semester • In the first round of subject registration in a semester, your programme offering department may set a credit limit for you to register subjects online. Please refer to the maximum number of extra credits when you perform subject registration. • During Add/Drop period, such limit will be removed and your maximum credits to be taken in a semester is 21 credits according to the University requirement.

  21. 8. Common Errors in Subject Registration (VI) • Study load in a semester • You are not allowed to register more than 21 credits in a semester. If you have need to register subjects more than 21 credits, please approach your programme offering departments for approval.
