Counselors sent to Escondido High after fatal crash ESCONDIDO — Counselors were being sent to Escondido High School on Tuesday morning to assist students learning of the death of a classmate who was killed Monday night in a single-vehicle crash. Students were to be told of 18-year-old senior Michael Hoffman’s death later in the morning, said Karyl O’Brien, spokeswoman for the Escondido Union High School District. Hoffman was killed when his car struck a wooden power pole as he was turning at the intersection of Broadway and North Avenue, Escondido police said.

Six teens injured, one seriously, in East County rollover EAST COUNTY: Six teenage boys were injured Wednesday after a 15-year-old driver with no license lost control of this SUV while speeding southbound on Buckman Springs Road, south of Mountain Empire High School, authorities said. One boy was taken by helicopter to Rady Children's Hospital in serious condition, while the other five were taken by ambulance to hospitals.

Teen driver arrested after fatal crash ESCONDIDO — A 17-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving Friday morning after a solo-vehicle crash in the Harmony Grove area left a teenage passenger dead, authorities said. The accident was reported around 6 a.m. on Harmony Grove Road near the Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve, east of Escondido The driver suffered minor injuries in the crash and was taken to the hospital

Hearing for Teen Charged in Death of Friend in Head-On Crash Rancho Bernardo: The girl, (under 18), is charged with vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence in the May 28 death of Rancho Bernardo High School junior BreAnna Erickson. The defendant took a curve on Sabre Springs Parkway too fast and collided with a rental box truck. Her speed was estimated to have been twice the posted 40 mph limit. BreAnna died at the scene. Several of her injured friends needed to be cut from the mangled vehicle. The defendant had been licensed to drive for about two months and had a provisional license,a designation that prohibited her from driving with passengers younger than 20 unless also accompanied by a licensed motorist 25 or older, or a driving instructor.
