  26. first reading 1 Kings 8:1,6,10,11,22-30,41-43CEV Solomon's prayer of dedication of the temple. R: The first Reading for the 13th Sunday after Pentecost is written in Chapter 8 of First Kings, beginning at Verse 1.

  27. 1 Kings 8:1,6,10,11,22-30,41-43 1-2The sacred chest had been kept on Mount Zion, also known as the city of David. But Solomon decided to have the chest moved to the temple while everyone was in Jerusalem, celebrating the Festival of Shelters during Ethanim, the seventh month of the year.

  28. 1 Kings 8:1,6,10,11,22-30,41-43 6The priests carried the chest into the most holy place and put it under the winged creatures. 10Suddenly a cloud filled the temple as the priests were leaving the most holy place. 11The LORD'S glory was in the cloud, and the light from it was so bright that the priests could not stay inside to do their work.

  29. 1 Kings 8:1,6,10,11,22-30,41-43 22Solomon stood facing the altar with everyone standing behind him. Then he lifted his arms toward heaven 23and prayed: LORD God of Israel, no other god in heaven or on earth is like you! You never forget the agreement you made with your people, and you are loyal to anyone who faithfully obeys your teachings.

  30. 1 Kings 8:1,6,10,11,22-30,41-43 24My father David was your servant, and today you have kept every promise you made to him. 25LORD God of Israel, you promised my father that someone from his family would always be king of Israel, if they do their best to obey you, just as he did. 26Please keep this promise you made to your servant David.

  31. 1 Kings 8:1,6,10,11,22-30,41-43 27There's not enough room in all of heaven for you, LORD God. How could you possibly live on earth in this temple I have built? 28But I ask you to answer my prayer. 29This is the temple where you have chosen to be worshiped. Please watch over it day and night and listen when I turn toward it and pray.

  32. 1 Kings 8:1,6,10,11,22-30,41-43 30 I am your servant, and the people of Israel belong to you. So whenever any of us look toward this temple and pray, answer from your home in heaven and forgive our sins.

  33. 1 Kings 8:1,6,10,11,22-30,41-43 41-42Foreigners will hear about you and your mighty power, and some of them will come to live among your people Israel. If any of them pray toward this temple, 43listen from your home in heaven and answer their prayers.

  34. 1 Kings 8:1,6,10,11,22-30,41-43 Then everyone on earth will worship you, just like your people Israel, and they will know that I have built this temple to honor you. This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

  35. Psalm 84 CEV R: The Psalm is Psalm 84 R: 1LORD God All-Powerful, your temple is so lovely! C: 2Deep in my heart I long for your temple, and with all that I am I sing joyful songs to you.

  36. Psalm 84 CEV R: 3LORD God All-Powerful, my King and my God, sparrows find a home near your altars; swallows build nests there to raise their young. C: 4You bless everyone who lives in your house, and they sing your praises.

  37. Psalm 84 CEV R: 5You bless all who depend on you for their strength and all who deeply desire to visit your temple.   C: 6When they reach Dry Valley, springs start flowing, and the autumn rain fills it with pools of water.

  38. Psalm 84 CEV R: 7Your people grow stronger, and you, the God of gods, will be seen in Zion. C: 8LORD God All-Powerful, the God of Jacob, please answer my prayer!   R: 9You are the shield that protects your people, and I am your chosen one. Won't you smile on me?

  39. Psalm 84 CEV C: 10One day in your temple is better than a thousand anywhere else. I would rather serve in your house, than live in the homes of the wicked. R: 11Our LORD and our God, you are like the sun and also like a shield. You treat us with kindness and with honor, never denying any good thing to those who live right.

  40. Psalm 84 CEV C:12LORD God All-Powerful, you bless everyone who trusts you.  C: Glory to the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit; As it was in the beginning is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

  41. second reading Ephesians 6:10-20 CEV Put on God's armour R: The Second Reading is written in Chapter 6 of Ephesians, beginning at Verse 10.

  42. Ephesians 6:10-20 10Finally, let the mighty strength of the Lord make you strong. 11Put on all the armor that God gives, so you can defend yourself against the devil's tricks. 12We are not fighting against humans. We are fighting against forces and authorities and against rulers of darkness and powers in the spiritual world.

  43. Ephesians 6:10-20 13So put on all the armor that God gives. Then when that evil day comes, you will be able to defend yourself. And when the battle is over, you will still be standing firm.

  44. Ephesians 6:10-20 14Be ready! Let the truth be like a belt around your waist, and let God's justice protect you like armor. 15Your desire to tell the good news about peace should be like shoes on your feet.

  45. Ephesians 6:10-20 16Let your faith be like a shield, and you will be able to stop all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17Let God's saving power be like a helmet, and for a sword use God's message that comes from the Spirit.

  46. Ephesians 6:10-20 18Never stop praying, especially for others. Always pray by the power of the Spirit. Stay alert and keep praying for God's people. 19Pray that I will be given the message to speak and that I may fearlessly explain the mystery about the good news.

  47. Ephesians 6:10-20 20I was sent to do this work, and that's the reason I am in jail. So pray that I will be brave and will speak as I should.  This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

  48. gospel John 6:56-69 CEV Jesus has the words of eternal life M: The Holy Gospel is written in Chapter 6 of the Gospel according to St John, beginning at Verse 56. C: Glory to you, O Lord .
