  1. Society of Women Engineers (SWE) at UT-Austin • This is a great time to be in engineering, and an excellent time to be a woman studying engineering at UT Austin. Currently, 1,084 women comprise 21.5% of the undergraduate engineering student body. In addition, women make up 19% of engineering graduate students. • The mission of the Society of Women Engineer is to recruit more female engineering students, to increase the percentage of female engineering graduates, and to provide a support structure that encourages the success of women in the College of Engineering. • To learn more about SWE, visit our website: • http://www.engr.utexas.edu/swe • Or the National SWE website: • http://www.swe.org • The CEW application can also be downloaded from • http://www.engr.utexas.edu/swe/CEW.htm CEW Program Highlights CEW 2009 Participants will: • Explore engineering through exciting hands-on activities. • Meet UT engineering students, faculty and staff as well as professional engineers • Visit local industries to get a first-hand view of what engineers do on the job. • Participate in an engineering design project with a team and present the final design to a volunteer industry panel. Careers in Engineering for Women summer program June 7-13, 2009 Who Should Apply? CEW targets girls currently in 6th or 7th grade who have an interest in math, science, and/or engineering. To be considered, applicants must meet the following criteria: • Only girls currently in 6th or 7th grade may apply • Former CEW participants may not apply Forty students will be selected based on the caliber of their application. When is the Application Deadline? Applications must be postmarked no later than January 31, 2009. All requested application materials should be sent together, not separately. Notification letters will be mailed in March 2009.
