  3. 1960s • The Free Speech movement at UC Berkley • Watt Riots – 1965 • Black Panther party founded • Sirhan Sirhan, a former CACC Cadet, assassinates Robert F. Kennedy

  4. 1970s • BART begins service • Sylmar Earthquake • Lakers win an NBA Championship • Oakland wins the World Series • Tom Bradley first African American Mayor of a large US City – LA • Proposition 13 Passes • CACC begins in LAUSD • Jonestown Massacre

  5. 1980s • Summer Olympics in 1984 • Junipero Serra named “venerable” by the Vatican • Another major earthquake in the San Francisco bay area (Loma Prieta) • Congress passes legislation to allow for payments to Japanese Americans interred during the war

  6. 1990s • Rodney King beating in Los Angeles; riots ensue • 1994 – Northridge Earthquake – 57 people die • Affirmative Action policies changed in University of California admissions • Indian casinos protected by public vote • Proposition 187

  7. 2000s • Governor Schwarzenegger elected after Governor Gray Davis was recalled • 2002-2005 – COL Richard Schneider serves as CACC Executive Officer • 2005-present – COL Larry VanZant serves as CACC Executive Officer • In 2011, the California Cadet Corps will celebrate its 100th Anniversary
