A little bit about me • Certified to Teach Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Science • Graduated BS Biology with a Minor in Chemistry- Bucknell University; MS Microbiology- Rutgers Graduate School New Brunswick and UMDNJ • Enjoy Reading, kayaking, gardening, horse back riding • My family: Husband- Eric; Children- Philip and Isabel; Pet- Vic

Units of Study Lab Skills Development • Interconnectedness of Life • Ecological Biochemistry • Cellular Biology – Structure Related to Function • DNA Structure and Cellular Reproduction • Gene Expression and Inheritance • Evolution and Classification of Living Things • Human Biology, Disease and Biotechnology Biology is the scientific study of living things. The tem Biology is derived from the Greek word bios, "life” and the suffix -logia, "study of”. Students will be studying various aspects of living things along with the “way of knowing” that we call science.

  6. Time Commitment • Students attend class three days each four day cycle. • On one of the three days, class time is extended from 55 minutes to 80 minutes for laboratory investigations. Lab day for Period 8 is “B” day. The extra time is taken from the unit lunch. Students will have 25 minutes for lunch on lab day. • Lab for Period 8 will begin promptly at 11:18!

Classroom Guidelines and Responsibilities • Arrive to class on time with all class materials. • Show respect at all times to everyone and everything. • Bathroom is for emergencies only. • No food or drink. • No cell phones during instructional time. • Be prepared to work safely and efficiently in the laboratory. If the students follow these simple guidelines, our year will be a success!

  8. Assignments and Grading The student’s Marking Period grade will be determined using a weighted percent system with fourcategories. Assessments – 50% 2) Marking Period Test– 10% 3) Labs/ Activities/ Classwork – 30%. 4) Homework- 10%

  9. Assignments and Grading- Final Grade The student’s Final Grade is determined: MP1 22.5% MP2 22.5% MP3 22.5% MP4 22.5% Final Exam 10%

  10. “But what can I do?” • Make sure your student has the proper materials. • Ask to look at their notebook. • Check the Genesis Parent Portal on a regular basis • Check my teacher website. • Let me know if a problem occurs. • Encourage your student to take responsibility.

Contact Me If: • Student is having difficulty in class. • Student is overwhelmed and can’t keep up. • Grades have suddenly dropped. • Student has not had adequate time to study for a test due to illness, overwhelming athletic or extracurricular commitments, family obligations, etc. The best way to contact me is by email: mkaspriskie@livingston.org
