  1. USING VIDEOS FOR LEARNER ENGAGEMENT

  2. • Usage of videos in classrooms and in virtual learning has consistently raised during the last twenty to thirty years or so. Videos are not only used on a wide scale, it is considered largely as a creative and successful teaching method.

  3. • There are several teaching benefits of using videos in training students. This has been proven by several years of research studies conducted on the topic. Mayer, R.E, (the author of the book “Multimedia learning. Cambridge” published in the year 2001 by Cambridge University Press) stated that viewing might be considered to be a passive form of learning.

  4. • However this method of viewing would include higher levels of cognitive activities. We know that higher levels of cognitive activities are required for active forms of learning. In this way, multi-media messages of instruction which are designed well could encourage dynamic cognitive processing.

  5. • This is notwithstanding the fact that students might appear to be idle behaviorally. Aiex, N.K. (in an article “Using film, video, and TV in the classroom” published in the year 1988 in ERIC Digest) stated that video training could be utilized “to encourage familiarity with the linkages amongst modes such as captions, sound, movement and pictures.”

  6. • Teachers who make use of videos in classrooms and in virtual training are of the view that such students are able to recollect additional information and comprehend ideas quickly. These students are more excited regarding the things they are able to learn using video training. Using videos in lesson plans, learners are frequently able to create new associations between educational topics.

  7. • They are also able to find linkages of these subjects with the outside world. Since videos can convey enduring images, educators are able to communicate with children having various styles of learning. This is particularly applicable to the visual learners and to those learners having various styles of acquiring information.Further video training helps students to involve in critical thinking, investigative and problem solving exercises.

  8. • To conclude, it can be said that successful use of video training can be a greatly effective tool in virtual learning. Videos have several proven teaching benefits. Videos could incite students to think and analyze and watch again and again as much as required. Video training includes small pieces of information that are simple to assimilate. They draw in individuals emotionally. It incorporate maps, pictures, sites, people, maps, etc.
