  3. “Protection” Scales Guiding Question: What motivational and attitudinal patterns provide the basis for an individual to want to avoid mistakes, errors, or act in unproductive ways? • In this framework, each scale contributes to an individual’s motivation to guard against errors or mistakes. • The scales—individually and collectively—provide deeper insights into the motivation behind an individual’s decisions, actions, and emotional state. • We arenot claiming that:(a) high scores are good or (b) that everyone should have high scores. iWAM Professional Development
