Five Year Plan • Set high quotas or goals to increase output of steel, coal, oil and electricity • Limited production on consumer goods • Shortages on food, housing and clothing • Although he did not reach those goals, Russia did make impressive economic results • In 1933, Stalin announces another five year plan

  4. Agricultural Revolution • 1928 Government seized 25 million private farms and combined them into govt. farms • Known as Collective Farms • Peasants would revolt • Stalin’s secret police would round up the peasants at gun point • By 1938, 90% of peasants lived on collective farms

  5. Life Under Stalin • Women had expanded roles • Bolshevik Revolution (1917) women were seen as equal to men • State provided child care for all working mothers • Women work in factories & construction • New educational opportunities • Motherhood seen as patriotic duty

  6. Life Under Stalin • By the mid 1930’s, Stalin had achieved total control • He stood as an unopposed dictator and controlled the Communist Party • Total social control and ruled by terror • In time, China would fall under the Karl Marx’s theories and Communist beliefs
