What is IOP? • The application of psychological principles to the workplace (anywhere people work)‏ • About helping people do their jobsby : • improving the performance and well-being . • identifies how behaviors and attitudes can be improved through hiring practices, training programs, and feedback systems

  3. IOP is... • the scientific study of the relationship between man and the world of work. • the application or extension of psychological facts and principles to the problems concerning human beings operating within the context of business and industry.

  4. Major Fields in IOP • Personnel Psychology • Organizational Psychology • Human Factors /Ergonomics

  5. Personnel Psychology • I/O personnel psychologists work with the Human Resource. • In areas such as: • Recruitment • Analyzing jobs • Determining salary levels • Training employees • Evaluating employees' performance

  6. Personnel Psychology: Recruitment • I/O Personnel Psychologist : • Choose existing tests or create new ones to select or promote employees. • Tests are constantly evaluated to ensure validity and fairness .

  7. Personnel Psychology: Training • I/O Psychologists examine various methods to be used to train and develop employees: • Identify training needs • Develop programs • Evaluate training success

  8. Organizational Psychologist… • Are concerned with : • issues of leadership • Job satisfaction • Employees motivation • Organizational communication • Conflict management • Organizational change • Group process • etc
