  1. Rubbing Alcohol and Water lab“Distillation” By: Aaron Levin, Robbie Roisenberg, and James Lax.

  2. Mixtures • Alcohol, boils at 90 degrees C. • Water, boils at 100 degrees C.

  3. The process We are going to be using the Distillation method. This means that we are going to boil the alcohol and the water in a way so that we only extracted the alcohol. By doing this we will boil the erlenmeyerflask in a beaker of water at 90 degrees C. This will make the alcohol evaporate but not the water so we can take out the alcohol.

  4. Equipment For this lab we used… • A beaker • A hot plate • An erlenmeyerflask • And a clamp to hold up the flask • Test-tube • Rubber tube stopper • Ring stand

  5. Procedure • First, you fill up the beaker with water and make a water bath and put it on the hot plate. Then fill up the smaller beaker and put ice in it. Next attach the flask to the flask clips to hold it above the beaker, then attach the rubber tube stopper to the top of the flask and put the other side in the test-tube, in the smaller beaker. • When everything is all set up heat the hot plate to high and wait for the temp. to get to 90 degrees C. Then put the heat on low and watch as you see the alcohol flow into the test-tube.
