  1. Fins of Fury A conceptual game design by Kate Duda Design Challenge To create a fully functioning 3D game that is both fun and engaging within a 3 month time span. Time limit: 11 hours IAT 410 Game Concept

  2. Fins of Fury • Persuasive Purpose • To create a platform game that is straightforward, but not tooeasy, that will be fun for a variety of players • To have this game be easily expandable through theaddition of new levels Industrial design IAT 410 Game Concept

  3. User Description Fins of Fury has a single main character named Tad, who startsoff the game as a tadpole. The levels of the game will take theplayer through a search and rescue story. • The game will likely be bought for those ages 7 - 14 • The game may be played by older family members and friends • Most players will have moderate experience with video games IAT 410 Game Concept

  4. Storyboard: Tadpole Tad Tad is out swimming one day with his brothers and sisters Tad proceeds to rescue his tasty siblings, searching both water and land while fighting evilminions Suddenly, all hissiblings are kidnappedby an evil frog giantwho intends to make them into tadpole soup Tad grows intoa frog and gainsnew abilities ashe progresses ontoland IAT 410 Game Concept

  5. Prototype of Fins of Fury: Level 1 Bad Guys Player IAT 410 Game Concept

  6. Features/Functionality • The tadpole has the ability to whip enemies with his tail, or lunge attack by butting with his head • The player grows from a tadpole into a frog as s/he progresses • The frog has the ability to hit and pick up items with his tongue, special power jumps, as well as crushing enemies with his legs. • The player must gather information and other helpful tidbits along the way (presented as missions in each level) • Game could be created in 3D to create some fun and interesting graphics, or possibly 2.5D IAT 410 Game Concept

  7. Theoretical Justifications • Platform games have been very successful in the past. • This type of game will be very playable, as well as easy to take breaks from, since it will be split up into levels as opposed to being one giant game. • The scope of this game can be narrowed down to what is realistic for a team of 5 people to create in 3 months. 8. Results of User Testing The most similar game I came across through research wouldbe GEX - Enter the Gecko for playstation. This game was quitepopular, mostly because the difficulty level was well balanced, the graphics were good, and the character was engaging (funny). IAT 410 Game Concept

  9. Shortcomings of Design • 3 months may not be enough time to create a completed multi level game • Creating the graphics to make it look original and attractive will be difficult and time consuming IAT 410 Game Concept

  10. Expansion - What else is possible? • Tadpole could obtain special powers to the game to make the game more varied • Because it is a platform type game, it will be possible to add more levels to it after the course is over • Basic Level Ideas • Level 1: The Pond • Level 2: The Swamp • Level 3: Land (possibly city) • Level 4: The Kitchen IAT 410 Game Concept

  11. The next steps in the design process • Form a balanced team of artists and programmers • Decide on more detailed game specifics • Figure out what game engine would be best to work with IAT 410 Game Concept
