  2. Routing and scheduling are preparatory steps. Actual production starts when permission is granted to commerce operations according to plans already laid down. Dispatching orders are issued in terms of their priority and work is assigned to operations. Dispatching, in effect determines by whom the work shall be done. Dispatching involves giving the necessary authority to start the work as per the schedules. Work orders and authorizations are issued to the production department to perform the work according to the planned sequence, using prescribed tools and predetermined scheduled. The dispatching department issues requisitions for materials and tools on the production order and checks to see that materials, parts and tools are available in time. Dispatching is irritating phase of PPC. It translates production plans into outputs. Orders are issued for the movement of materials, parts and tools to work centers as well as for inspection and recording of work done

FUNCTIONS OF DISPATCHING • Collecting and then issuing to supervisors the drawing, specifications, materials, lists, job tickets, route cards, requisitions • Ensuring that materials, parts, tools and other aids are made available to the manufacturing department at the right time • Obtaining inspection schedules and issuing to the inspection section • Informing the progress section that production commences • Releasing work orders for start of manufacturing operations • At the end of manufactures, ensuring that all the drawing, layouts and tools are returned to appropriate places

  4. PROGRESSING OR EXPENDING OR FOLLOW UP Progressing is ensuring that the work is carried out as planned and delivery dates are met. The objectives of progress control is to control variations or deviations from programmed level. It ensures that production proceeds according to plans. Some from of continuous follow up procedure is created to monitor progress of work and to chase or expedite the work centers falling behind schedules. Progress chasers or expediters are employed for this function their duties are as follows • To determine the causes of deviations from programme • To assist in removing the problems causing the deviations • To maintain liasion with other departments, supplying materials and components • To authorize and sign requisitions • To prepare a list of materials and components which are in short supply

  5. Progressing consist of the following activities • Watching progress of work and reporting actual facts and conditions and devotions if any • Physical control of work in progress through frequent checking • Expediting corrective action in case of deviations, so that bottlenecks are removed at the earliest possible moment
