  1. Tomorrow’s Foundation Update and Proposal to increase support--- HarshaKudoor May 14, 2014

  2. Tomorrow’s Foundation • Based in West Bengal • Education Support, Vocational Training, Psychological Assistance, Hostel facilities for under-privileged children in high risk areas. (http://www.tomorrowsfoundation.org/) • More than 1200 students have graduated and close to 9000 kids have received help since inception in 1991

  3. TF Stars • Joint SAC Program between ASHA and TF • The funds are utilized for the Mother Project and Sponsorship Project • Focused on the children in Kalighat area, Kolkata’s red-light district. • Supports 50 students as of today • Last disbursement : Feb 2014 ($6753) • Funding from ASHA SV since 2006 : $118,375

  4. 2014 – 2015 Budget • For the currently supported 50 students (22 secondary and 28 higher level students) the budget comes up to Rs. 8,49,772 ($14,101) 50 ASV Students' update (2014 - 2015).xls • Notable costs are for remedial coaching to improve academic performance and cost of following up with the students. • ASV BUDGET-- 2014-15.xls • They have requested a release of funds in the first week of June (They work on a Jan-Dec Schedule and the costs for the past 3.5 months has had their funds running thin at this point)

  5. Request for more support • We received a request from TF to provide for the support of more children this time. • They would like ASHA to support an additional 50 children ( Their original request in 2013 was for 123 children) • Cost per child as per budget is ~ $282. • Based on how much additional funds ASHA is willing to release, they will provide us an updated budget.

  6. Why fund them? • TF is a well organized effort with a proven ability to affect the lives of these children for the better over the past 23 years • We have had a good working relationship with them with prompt, transparent and sincere communication for the past 8 years. • The mother project has had remarkable success • 87% of the students in this program passed the annual exam in 2011-2012 • Retention rate of students was up to 96% • They are working towards increasing parent participation which is in line with ASHA’s view of an NGO eventually having a self sustaining formula.

  7. Polls Required • To approve 2014-2015 budget • To support more children. How many?

  8. Thank You
