Objectives • Organize events and activities for teachers in the areas of PD and research • Contribute to the improvement of instruction, curriculum, assessment and evaluation • Create an atmosphere conducive to research • Enhance the standing of the LC at SQU • Contribute to consistent implementation of induction and mentoring policies

Structure • Unit Head (Dr. Victoria Tuzlukova, victoria@squ.edu.om) • Unit Member, Professional Development (also the Head of the LC Professional Development Committee) (Jamila Al-Seyabi, jamilas@squ.edu.om) • Unit Member, Research (also the Head of the LC Research Committee) (Dr. Faisal Al-Maamari, faisalf@squ.edu.om) • Unit Member, Induction and Mentoring Programs (Louise Greenwood, louiseg@squ.edu.om)

  4. Professional Development • PD activities and events (Wednesday, 2:00 to 4:00) • PD Day in May

  5. Professional Development • Database of relevant ESL/EFL conferences, symposia and training workshops on PDC webpage

  6. Professional Development • PDC webpage on the LC website, PDC section on Virtual Language Centre and other relevant resources

  7. Research • Research promotion at the LC • Advice, and support for the LC faculty engaged in research

  8. Research • Research policy documents • Research projects and grants • Support for approved research projects from within and outside the LC • Opportunities for the dissemination of research findings.

  9. Induction and Mentoring Programs • Consistent implementation of SQU staff induction and mentoring policies • Exploration of what the LC faculty can provide in terms of induction and mentoring programs for demonstrators and new teachers

  10. Induction and Mentoring Programs • Orientation for the new faculty • Consultations, observations, etc. for new teachers and demonstrators • Remedial assistance for teachers experiencing difficulties
