  3. Buying Decisions • What influences what you buy? • Advertisement: is a message that persuades consumers to buy a product or service. • Trend: A temporary fashion or product. • Remember to evaluate your buying habits.

  4. Advertising • Media: Various forms of communication that advertisers use. • Advertising or ads are designed to: to catch the attention of consumers and convince them to buy a product or service.

  5. Types of Advertising • Information Ad: Describe the features of a product or service and give FACTS about its price and quality. • Image Ad: Connect a product or service to a lifestyle that consumers would like to have. Often use famous people to help sell the product.

  6. Evaluating Advertising – Being a Responsible Consumer • 1. Does the ad suggest that the product will make me healthier, more attractive, or even happier than is realistic? • 2. Is the celebrity in the commercial an expert in nutrition, medicine , or fashion? • 3. Does the catchy slogan really mean something, or is it just to make me remember the product’s name?
