  2. Definition • Audacious. [Aw-dey-shus]. – Adj. • Bold or extremely daring, confident and intrepid, sometimes in defiance, can also be original • Usually used in the sense of being a bit cheeky, shameless

  3. Etymology • Derived from several sources of use in the 1500’s • From the Latin: audacia- had practically the same meaning as audacious • Audax- bold and daring • Audere- is the verb: to dare

  4. Examples Of Use • “He might have done far better for himself and others had he been a brave bad man like Wenworth– audacious, unscrupulous, driving straight to a fixed goal” (London Pride or When the World Was Younger) • "Then you are horribly audacious, and kiss me straight off, you know how you used to.” (When the Birds Begin to Sing) • She was altogether indifferent to public opinion and consulted her own taste alone, which was certainly impregnated with a touch of audacity; but she did not seek to appear audacious -- she merely acted according to her natural bent.” (Samuel Brohl And Company)
