  1. Blue Care SundayToday - All Day - Everyday August 26, 2012

  2. The people gather [A blue candle is lit] We gather at the beginning of worship, and remember that God is with us We remember the faithfulness and protection of God – in our community, in our lives, and in the work of Blue Care

  3. Call to worship – Psalm 84 How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of hosts! My soul longs, indeed it faints for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God. Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, at your altars, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God. Happy are those who live in your house, ever singing your praise. Happy are those whose strength is in you, in whose heart are the highways to Zion. As they go through the valley of Baca they make it a place of springs; the early rain also covers it with pools. They go from strength to strength; the God of gods will be seen in Zion. O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer; give ear, O God of Jacob!

  4. Call to worship – Psalm 84 (continued) Behold our shield, O God; look on the face of your anointed. For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than live in the tents of wickedness. For the Lord God is a sun and shield; he bestows favour and honour. No good thing does the Lord withhold from those who walk uprightly. O Lord of hosts, happy is everyone who trusts in you. (NRSV)

  5. Hymn/Song Prayers of thanksgiving and confession Gracious God, we thank you that yet again we are able to gather in your name. Let today be a day when we remember the way that your church is present in the world. We join our prayers with those who claim you as Lord, whether in times of worship or at work; at times of rest, or at times of extreme business, we thank you for your promise that you are always with us. O God of love and grace, who gave us through Jesus of Nazareth a vision of your readiness to forgive, come to assure us again of your love, reaching out even in times when we are lost in the far country of our separation from your will.

  6. Prayers of thanksgiving and confession (continued) Forgive us not only for our failures, those times when we have turned away from what we know of your will, but also for our slowness to understand that you are waiting for us in all aspects of our lives, and will welcome us with open arms when we turn to you. Open us to the coming of your spirit, that in this time of searching for you, we may be surprised by joy in the discovery that in all of our wanderings you have been drawing us to yourself. So may our time of worship be a period of renewal, rebirth and recommitment. Amen.

  7. Declaration of forgiveness Hear then Christ’s word of grace to us: Your sins are forgiven! Thanks be to God. Passing of the Peace The peace of the Lord be always with you And also with you (Please exchange a sign of peace with your neighbours)

  8. Children’s Time

  9. Hymn/Song First reading 1 Kings 8:1-43 Second reading John 6:56-69

  10. Message

  11. Affirmation of Faith We are not alone, we live in God’s world. We believe in God: who has created and is creating, who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh, to reconcile and make new, who works in us and others by the Spirit. We trust in God.

  12. Affirmation of Faith (continued) We are called to be the Church: to celebrate God’s presence, to live with respect in Creation, to love and serve others, to seek justice and resist evil, to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen, our judge and our hope. In life, in death, in life beyond death, God is with us. We are not alone. Thanks be to God. Hymn/Song Offering Notices and Concerns of the Church

  13. Prayers of the People Belonging is your great gift to us, O God and we are grateful for it; belonging to your worldwide family as beloved sons and daughters, knowing our worth through your love; belonging to the body of Christ as participants in your redemptive plan for a new and deeply human society; belonging to a caring community, a network of love and support, where we can discover and celebrate all that we are and can be. Thank you for your broad church, in all its forms, including service agencies such as Blue Care, and all the community connections we make as the body of Christ. Thank you for the blessings of this congregation, where we find belonging and where we are affirmed and renewed in our relationship with you and with one another. (cont.)

  14. Prayers of the People (continued) Open us to those who have no such sense of belonging, whose Lives are stripped of relationship and empty of the ties that enrich us And give our lives added dimensions of meaning. Through our experiences of this gift, may we be enabled to touch such lives with compassion and understanding and a new sense of personal value, until all persons everywhere can be drawn within the circle of your love, we pray this in the name of Christ Jesus. Amen.

  15. Let us pray together the prayer that Jesus taught us: The Lord’s Prayer Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

  16. Hymn/Song Blessing and Sending Out Having heard again the story of God’s love for us, let us leave this place with a renewed commitment to tell our own stories of hope and redemption. May God be in the telling of our story, Jesus be our covenantal companion and the Spirit be our inspiration for new stories. Today, all day and every day. Amen. All prayers adapted fromF. Styles, Worship for an Easter People, Vol 3, 1981
