  2. OSSD Requirements + Transcript • 30 credits (18 + 12) • OSSLT • 40 hours community service • Up-to-date transcript (SS, night school, Int’l languages) • MUST have 6 4U/4M courses to apply to UNIVERSITY programs

  5. Gathering Information Additional Requirements • Portfolio submissions (i.e. art programs) - Continually update it - Know the requirements - Know submission deadlines • Audition dates (performance programs) • First Aid • CPR • Criminal Reference Check

University Application Process • December – January 14 • You will receive your PIN from student services (November) • Online (www.ouac.on.ca) – ‘OUAC 101’ • 3 choices (rank them) • PIN, school number, student number, complete mailing address • Application payment format (credit card, cheque, money order) $135 • Appropriate email; one you check

  8. Mark Transmissions • Make sure your transcript is up-to-date and accurate • Electronically (we take care of it)

University Offers of Admission • Check email (even SPAM folder) • May begin as early as Feb/March for strong candidates • May 28 – majority of applicants will receive a response from Ontario universities • Must confirm through www.ouac.on.ca • June 1 – earliest date by which Ontario universities require a response to an offer of admission and a financial commitment

  10. English Language Requirements • In Canada less than 5 years, may be required to write an English Language Proficiency Test (i.e. TOEFL) • Application will not be considered until test results have been received • Research now (test dates, locations, times) • Online practice test

  11. Scholarships and Bursaries • START RESEARCHING NOW and ATTEND THE DSSS SCHOLARSHIP SESSION (May 2, 2014 – P3 and P4, Room 109)

OSAP • Financial assistance (it is a loan) • Based on financial need (income + assets) • Can begin to apply in late April/early May http://www.ontario.ca/education-and-training/how-get-osap • Have to wait until you have received an offer of admission and have a student number from the post secondary school to apply • If accepted, receive half the money at the start of the school year, and the remainder during the school year

  13. 30% Tuition Grant • Apply for 30% off tuition grant http://www.ontario.ca/education-and-training/30-off-ontario-tuition • Parents income <$160k, full time post secondary student in a program immediately after high school, CDN citizen/permanent resident • Money you don't have to repay • Automatically entered if applying for OSAP. If not, you need to apply • $790 for college diploma and certificate students • $1730 for university and college degree students

Important Dates - University • Sept. 19-21 – Ontario Universities Fair (Metro Toronto Convention Centre) • Sept 27-28 – Student Life Expo (Metro Toronto Convention Centre) • Nov 13 – Post Secondary Fair at DSSS (6:30pm-8:30pm) • Campus Tours/Open Houses – ASAP • Dec – start applying to university programs • Jan 14 – Application deadline to OUAC • April/May – apply for OSAP and the 30% off tuition grant • May 28 – majority of applicants will receive a response from Ontario universities (conditional offer of acceptance, refusal, deferral pending further information) • June 1– earliest date by which Ontario universities require a response to an offer of admission and a financial commitment
