Metric Units(SI Units)

- Must have a number and a unit
(Ex) 13 vs. 13 cm

- The number tells how much you have
- The unit tells what you are measuring
(Ex) cm = length; g = mass; L = volume; J = energy;

°C = temperature

- Notice the basic units have one letter.
- * All other units are derived units and have two letters or more.

1 kg = 1000 g

1 cm = 0.01 m

1 mL = 0.001 L

1 Ms = 1000000 s

1 µL = 0.000001 L

- Conversion factors (CF)
1. always in fraction form

2. always equal to 1

(Ex)

3. More than 1 CF can be multiplied

4. Units are treated like variables

(Ex)

(Ex) Convert 1.74 m to cm

(Ex) Convert 14.5 nm to mm.

Convert the units

1) 592 cmto in

2) 8.5 L/min to gal/sec

3) 65 km/hr to mile/min
