  3. Devotional

  4. Why Study? Biblical worship is often corrupted by boredom, lack of purpose, and nonparticipational behavior which leads the congregation to go through the motions without genuine heart involvement. The opposite extreme offers little more than secular entertainment with a religious veneer, a packaged plastic program so perfect and professional that even the most sincere worshiper can scarcely break through its shrink-wrapped design to get his hands on true worship (GangelBSac 142:566 (Apr 85)

  5. Biblical Foundation Worship From the Old English word “worth-ship” More than “ritual, bells and smells” Both a noun and a verb Worship God! The Worship Center Our proper response to God Renewal of worship through the study of the Scriptures and Church History.

  6. Biblical Foundation Old Testament New International Dictionary of Old Testament Theology hwj hawa – Worship/Bow/Curl up 170 times The gesture is an external sign of the inner spirit (though hypocrisy is possible).

  7. Biblical Foundation New Testament New International Dictionary of New Testament Theology proskune÷wproskyneo worship, bow 59 times The Old Testament sense is taken up and developed and now refers to the worship of God and Jesus alone.

  8. Worship the Creator The duty to worship God is based upon the fact that He is the Creator and that to Him all other beings owe their existence. And wherever, in the Bible, His claim to reverence and worship, above the gods of the heathen, is presented, there is cited the evidence of His creative power. "All the gods of the nations are idols: but the Lord made the heavens." Psalm 96:5 (Great Controversy 436-437).

  9. Worship the Creator "Thus saith the Lord that created the heavens; God Himself that formed the earth and made it: . . . I am the Lord; and there is none else." Isaiah 45:18. Says the psalmist: "Know ye that the Lord He is God: it is He that hath made us, and not we ourselves. . . . " Psalms 100:3. And the holy beings who worship God in heaven state, as the reason why their homage is due to Him: "Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for Thou hast created all things." Revelation 4:11. (Great Controversy, 437).

  10. Worship the Creator "The importance of the Sabbath as the memorial of creation is that it keeps ever present the true reason why worship is due to God"--because He is the Creator, and we are His creatures. . . . The true ground of divine worship, not of that on the seventh day merely, but of all worship, is found in the distinction between the Creator and His creatures. This great fact can never become obsolete, and must never be forgotten." (J. N. Andrews, History of the Sabbath, chapter 27 GC 438-439).

  12. Worship the Redeemer In a loud voice they sang: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!” 13 Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing: “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!” 14 The four living creatures said, “Amen,” and the elders fell down and worshiped (Revelation 5:12).

  13. Worship the Redeemer Exodus 6:6 “Therefore, say to the Israelites: ‘I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. I will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment. Exodus 20:1-2 And God spoke all these words: 2 “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

  14. Worship the Redeemer Deuteronomy 5:15 Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the LORD your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the LORD your God has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day.

  15. Worship the Redeemer A congregation may be the poorest in the land. It may be without the attractions of any outward show; but if the members possess the principles of the character of Christ, angels will unite with them in their worship. The praise and thanksgiving from grateful hearts will ascend to God as a sweet oblation. "Give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good: For His mercy endureth forever. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, Whom He hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy" (Psalm 107:1-2). (PK 566).

  17. Worship as Service 1. Worship God above . . . Romans 11:33;36 Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out! . . . 36 For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.

  18. Worship as Service 2. So that it may transform your heart . . . Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God — this is your spiritual act of worship. 2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is — his good, pleasing and perfect will.

  19. Worship as Service 3. And lead you to love and serve others. Romans 12:3-5 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you. Romans 12:9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.

  20. Worship as Service Deuteronomy 5:14 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your ox, your donkey or any of your animals, nor the alien within your gates, so that your manservant and maidservant may rest, as you do.

  21. Worship as Service "The Sabbath not only reminds us of our deliverance, but it commands us to extend the blessing to those under oppression or servitude. It is not enough to rejoice in and enjoy one's own salvation. One must also work with God to bring deliverance 'to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord" (Luke 4:18). Every Sabbath as the Christian rests in remembrance of his redemption and freedom, he must also consider those who still remain in bondage" (Sakae Kubo 1978:46).
