  2. Schedule Your Visits • Call the scheduling Graduate Assistant at 777-7887 and leave a message OR email cdrc.ga@gmail.com • There are limited openings in each classroom. You must make an appointment BY NOON THE DAY BEFORE. • All visits must be completed before the Thanksgiving holiday, so plan ahead.

  3. Rescheduling and Canceling • If your schedule changes or you are sick CANCEL your observation and reschedule by contacting the GA at (803)777-7887 or cdrc.ga@gmail.com • Let the scheduling GA know when you finish your assignment or if you drop the class. Treat this like a job – if you are not going to come at your assigned time let someone know.

  4. Lanyards • Purchase a lanyard from the SC bookstore or office supply store • Insert your student ID into the clear holder. • Wear this lanyard when at the Center.

  5. General Expectations Push the red button by the front door to be let into the Center. Sign in at the front desk AND in and out in the binder in the classroom. DRESS CODE: Dress comfortably but neatly: shorts /skirts must be at least knee length, no ripped jeans or strappy tops. shoes with CLOSED TOES (no flip-flops) for your safety This is a conservative profession: Cover noticeable tattoos Remove facial piercings Do not chew gum

  6. PROFESSIONALISM • You will be permitted in the classroom only if you are smoke, perfume, and alcohol free. • Turn your cell phone OFF while in the Center. Do not talk or text! • Be sure your personal belongings are out children’s reach. Ask the classroom teacher where you should place them. • Sit only on chairs/stools or the floor (not on shelves).

  7. What to do? • Wash your hands when you arrive. • Take off your shoes (wear socks) in the Infant rooms. • Plan to be actively involved with children. • Limit your conversations with adults. Be certain all conversations are professional. ENJOY YOUR TIME WITH THE CHILDREN!

  8. Transportation There is NO STUDENT PARKING at the center. The BLUE line of the Shuttlecock stops in front of the Blatt PE Center. You may find a metered spot by the tennis courts. The Bull Street and Horizon garages (on Main St.) also provide hourly parking.

  9. The Required Background Check • We must receive your SLED check before you can begin your observations. • In most cases SLED clearances will be valid throughout your USC academic career if your enrollment is continuous. If you think you have a valid SLED check on file ask the scheduling GA to look it up. • With a SLED clearance you are NOT permitted to be unsupervised with children.

SLED CLEARANCE • http://www.sled.state.sc.us/ • We will provide you with a user id and password. • Click on “Criminal Records check” and follow the instructions. • You are eligible for the reduced $8 rate for assignments completed at the Children’s Center. • Use a credit or debit card for this transaction
