  1. Oral Presentation for APE At this point in our journey, we have read the critical strategies. As requested previously, reading the pieces of literature that are referenced will help you to grapple with the lens the strategy affords.

  2. This oral presentation is to be based on two critical theories/strategies of your choice. The intention would be to deepen and enhance your perception of this amazing novel by examining it through two lenses. • EDU sites must be used. • A hard typed copy must be turned in on the due date. • Your presentation must be visible – jump drives or email it to yourself. • Do not wait till the last moment. • Due date is a due date.

Topic: circle one • Characterization, point of view, conflict, dialogue, imagery, tone, symbol, diction • So, the literary element is to be researched and a relevant quote pulled from that perspective/lens/strategy. • 1.   6. C. Choose a quotation from the novel Grendel that was significant to the overall meaning of the work. This quotation must be one that resonated with thematic significance. • Internal citation (MLA format) • “The point of close reading is to go beyond merely summarizing a work to figuring out how a writer’s stylistic choices convey the work’s message or meaning” (Free Response Packet). • “..to use evidence from the text skillfully to illustrate and develop the argument” (free Response Packet). • The argument is your assessment of theme, based on your explication of text/close reading.

A paragraph of seven sentences explaining the relationship of the quote to the overall meaning/theme of the work. • (Review those wonderful Maryville notes on theme) • D. • Cite two sources from the Literature Resource Center on TEL on literary criticism. MLA format for WC page (P word warning) • This is serious literary criticism research. • No work cited = 0. The P word. • Legitimate scholarly sources = loss of credit. • On Tennessee Electronic - literary criticism if you look carefully, you will discover this treasure trove.
