  3. OBEDIENCE AND LOVE • The man blessed to enjoy this salvation, hope, inheritance etc. responds by obeying and demonstrating a sincere love“sincere” - without pretense or showThe point being this saved man lives for God and his brother rather than self

  4. OBEDIENCE AND LOVE • This man rids himself of those attitudes which prevent obedience and brotherly love (2:1-3)We take this same mindset into every relationship (2:13-20) “To sum up all of you be harmonious…” (3:8-12 )

SURVIVING THE FIRE • “clothe yourselves with humility” to fasten or gird on one’s self; the ἐγκόμβωμα was the white scarf or apron of slaves, which was fastened to the girdle of the vest ἐξωμίς, and distinguished slaves from freemen; hence 1 Pet. 5:5 τὴν ταπεινοφρ. ἐγκομβώσασθε, gird yourselves with humility as your servile garb (ἐγκόμβωμα) i. e. by putting on humility show your subjection one to another. (Thayer p.166)
