  2. Objectives • The purpose of today’s meeting is • to discuss the registration process • To provide registration materials • To review graduation requirements • To inform participants of curriculum changes

  3. Master Schedule Timeline • The timeline is a guide. • Most important dates to meet – Tally Sheets, Working Master Schedule, and Master Schedule Meetings. • Final Master schedule due – March 30

  4. TEACHER CERTIFICATION • Teacher certification can be found at http://www.ar4u.state.ar.us/Logon.html • Login – admin; Password - admin

  5. Graduation Requirements • PCSSD will have 2 graduation requirements in effect during the 2012-2013 school year. • 2012-2013 – 22 credits • 2013-2014 – 22 credits • All students participate in the smart core unless parents sign a waiver.

  6. 2012-2013 Graduates Smart Core Core Curriculum 4 units of English 4 units of math (Alg. I, Geom.,) 3 units of science (physical science, biology) 3 units of social studies (1/2 civics or government, world history, U.S. History) • 4 units of English • 4 units of math (Alg. I, Geometry, Alg. II, adv. math-must take a class in 11th or 12th grade) • 3 units of science (physical science, biology, chemistry or physics) • 3 units of social studies (civics or civics/government, world history, U.S. History)

Graduation • Beginning with the class of 2010-2011, students must complete all graduation requirements at the time of graduation to be eligible to participate (walk) and receive their diploma at graduation ceremonies. • All Board Policies can be accessed online at www.pcssd.org • Click on the Leadership Link • Board Policy

  11. Class Rankings/GPA • Beginning with the graduating class of 2010-2011, class rank for the designation of student honors will be determined at the end of the 8th semester for graduating seniors. Students will be ranked at the end of the first semester of graduating year for college admissions and scholarship purposes. • All AP courses are weighted prior to the AP exams.

SMART CORE • Smart Core Curriculum • Course of Study begins in 7th grade. • Smart Core Curriculum and the required course of study for graduation shall be included in the student handbook. • Students and parents shall acknowledge receipt of school’s policy regarding Smart Core and the required course of study for graduation by a signed statement.

  14. SMART CORE • Schools shall document procedures and methods used to inform parents and students of this policy. • Teachers, administrators, and counselors shall be provided with appropriate training in this policy. • Smart Core Training materials can be accessed at www.arkansased.org

  15. COURSE CODES • To access the course code management system, visit the ADE Data Center http://adedata.arkansas.gov • Click the link for Course Code Management

  16. Course Codes • Must utilize the course codes that are provided. • Must match the teacher certification with the course code – must provide printout of teacher certification • Pay attention to the grade level of students who can be in the classes.

  17. Course Codes • Do not add a course for the first time without consulting the curriculum coordinator. • Middle schools – If you change the teacher who teaches a high school credit class, you must submit a new course approval. • All course approvals must go through the curriculum coordinator.

Arkansas Academic Challenge • Handout can be accessed at the Arkansas Department of Higher Education’s website. • Beginning with class of 2010 • Arkansas resident • Accepted; full-time student in a program of study • Baccalaureate degree, associate degree, qualified certificate or a nursing school diploma • Complete a FAFSA • Graduate from an Arkansas public high school and complete Smart Core Curriculum and • Have at least a 2.5 GPA or • 19 on the ACT

Arkansas Academic Challenge • Graduate before 2013 – 2014 and did not complete Smart Core • 2.5 GPA and • At least 19 on ACT or • Score proficient or higher on all state-mandated end-of-course assessments • Applicants who graduate from an Arkansas public high school that is annually identified on the Grade Inflated List • 2.5 GPA and • 19 on ACT or • Score proficient or higher on all state-mandated end-of-course assessments

The Middle School Look • All schools will have a 7 period day except Fuller. • A 25-minute activity period is included. • Bell Schedule • Meet with your committees, etc., to discuss next year’s bell schedule. • Schedules are due to Matheney and Berry by January 6th. • Schedule must be signed by principal.

  23. STAFFING ALLOCATIONS • Allocations will be based upon October 1 enrollment. • Provided to principals by February 10.

  24. CLASS SIZES • Special Education • Twenty-five total • No more than 8 special ed students identified as receiving services in that area • Core Classes (6 x 25 = 150) • Twenty-five • Non-core • State guidelines

  25. INTERVENTION • Language Arts and Math are semester classes. Language Arts and Math teachers will teach the intervention.

  26. TEACHERS • Be sure to check certification • Look at your existing staff to fill your needs • Post the right combinations • Avoid stand alone positions • Consult other principal if sharing a teacher

  27. DISTRICT WIDE OPEN HOUSE • January 26th from 9:00 to 2:00 • Sell your school • Have someone dedicated to greet visitors. • Parents have choices.
